internal vs external memory

I'm a little confused by this. If you buy the model with 8GB internal memory, does that mean you cannot use an external card at all, or do you have the option to use a larger external card if you wanted?

You have the option to use the external card.

i.e the camera gives you the option to record on internal OR external drive

Note that you cannot record on both, it won't span both storage locations automatically
