Is a 4K rear dash camera worth it?

So far I have used 3-4K dash cameras that all have a 4K rear camera.

As far as I am concerned none of them should be available for sale on the market.
They all have problematic bugs that make them unreliable device.

Is 70mai T800 included in this?

Yes, the one's @SafeDriveSolutions tested are on page three:

They are not concerns.

A dash camera is expected to do 1 job reliably.

Record video while driving

So far all 3 I have tested have failed.

Customers all reported rear camera connecting and disconnecting while driving which means the dash camera is constantly recording stopping recording over and over again.

This is not 1 issue there are multiple.

The 70Mai T800 has a great interior camera. Yet again I am testing beta firmware after beta firmware to find the same problems with their unit.

Corrupt video files
Motion detection only works on front camera (but i can never get it to wake up and record anything in motion detection even from front camera) which is suppose to work
Many more challenges I need to go through my notes. I think I am on firmware #4 to fix issues.

Red Tiger F77
Well not going to start on that. I think @rcg530 has a blog on it.

I think dash camera companies need to go back to the drawing board with the 4k rear cameras

I wanted to start the discussion on whether or not a 4K rear camera is really worth it?

So far i have tested the Red Tiger F77 (First rear 4K dash camera) even though many others claim to be the first (you know how you are).
70 Mai T800, Viofo A229 Ultra.

I have my opinions on these 3 dash cameras but i wanted to open up the discussion and see what others think before I make a video with my findings.

Are there any other true 4K rear dash cameras that others have tested?

Pros and Cons of a rear 4K dash camera?
Biggest problem I have had with rear dash cam is proprietary cables and insufficient length on large SUVs. I recently bought the 70maiT800 4k premium set and I am disappointed with cable issues from my rear camera. I own a GMC yukon Denali XL and the 5.5m cable provided is too short. USB c cable extenders do not work, and I have tried 3 different cables of lengths up to 9m to find out the company has proprietary cables. I am awaiting arrival on a USB c thunderbolt 4 cable USB3.2gen2 to see if this will work. I have communicated with 70mai and they have assured me they will send me a 9m cable of their company. Otherwise to make this work , I will have to take down part of the in-cabin headliner. 70mai needs to qualify their system is not suitable for large SUVS. I have been pleased with the overall optics.

Can't speak for other brands, but I believe Viofo and Vantrue offer extended cable lengths to ensure vehicles like the Denali can be setup with a dashcam, too.

For reasonable price versus performance, I'd say 4K rear is definitely worth it.

I had the same thinking as most people, 4K in rear is not worth it, simply because if someone rear ends you they're likely a fault as long as you can provide decent footage from a 1080p or 2K rear camera.

However, given the low amount of light that rear gets especially at night and the fact most manufacturer compress the rear camera video files more than the front camera video files, a 4K rear camera at night under low light or when moving fast is not equal to a 4K front camera in term of video quality, but better than a 2K rear camera.
