I've had wired a OBD connected BlackVue 770 2CH mainly to protect my car from vandalism, especially since tyre damage is becoming more common in my area. Can someone tell me what the current state-of-the-art is with parking mode, what I can expect in terms of what they will detect? I’ve tested its effectiveness by parking the car, walking away, then returning to rock it from behind (right in front of the rear camera), and also by standing directly in front of the front camera just afterwards. After noting the exact time, I came back ten minutes later—only to discover nothing had been recorded. It seems like the camera only responds to very specific triggers, like someone briefly touching the bonnet, and even then, it may miss straightforward impacts like rocking the car or someone standing close for several minutes. On a busy street, I’d expect more activity to get picked up throughout the night, but it only records headlights for a little while after ignition off, and then stops for the rest of the night. Essentially, reliable overnight protection is critical to me, so if the camera’s parking mode isn’t capturing proper incidents after these tests, I’m seriously considering switching to a model that's better at detecting and recording these kinds of events, or maybe this one is faulty. Any ideas?
