During the daytime the video looks great, but at night it's basically all washed out by any sort of light. Can't really see anything unless there's no cars or street lights. I attached a picture containing brake lights, headlights and a streetlight.

Are there any settings to mess around with or do I need a better quality camera?

Looks to me like your windshield needs a very good cleaning - inside and out. Also make sure the camera lens is clean.

BTW, welcome to DCT.

Agree, and make sure the protective film has been removed from the lens and both sides of the CPL, if fitted.

Agree with above comments.
My front window needs cleaning inside often as the plastics of the dash release a lot of chemicals and the amount of invisible pollutants drawn in by the ventilation system add to the problem.

Indeed, as a dashcam operator you really can not clean your windows often enough, especially this time of the year, but even in the summer and even if a smoker have never been near your car, the damn thing still seem to suck up a lot of crud.

I wash my car pretty often as i have a flat rate deal, the 6-7 minutes this take i often spend cleaning the inside of my windscreen, the other 3 sides where ia also have cameras i will admit i dont clean as often, and surely not this time of the year.

On the windscreen i normally just slide the cameras off their mount ( i most often have 3 - 4 - 5 cameras there ) i then "tie" the cameras now dangling on their wires to my mirror thats mounted off the roof with a old rag, this way i can freely use my chemicals on the windscreen and not worry if i get some on the camera lenses.
As i haver not touched the cameras they slide right back on their mounts and are correct aimed, if you have been cleaning the lens glass which i do not do that often, then you of course have to be sure the aim are good again with a 50/50 split at the horizon.
Most cameras today do not have side to side adjustment unless it is in the mount, but if there it most often dont matter much if its a few degrees off as the wide angle lens will still make sure you get that you expect to get, if not you are really bad at "ball parking" the sideways aim.

I am old and not as flexible as i use to be, so i focus on the area of the glass closest to the cameras, and places like the bottom corners of the windscreen i dont care much for as they are also hard to reach even if i drive a laughable small car.
BUT ! nothing of interest filming thru the bottom corners of the glass, so as long as it dont look as if those areas are smeared in mayonnaise i am good there.

Clean or not glass ( inside ) this time of the year, you will probably still have some "halo / glow " due to moisture on the glass, but as the car heat up this should reduce significantly.
