Hi all
I'm looking to get a front only dashcam for a jeep compass (can't afford the custom one that means taking apart the whole windscreen console and I want to install it myself). To run a cable to the 12V located at the rear of the central console at the back of the driver/passenger seats, I need about 13 feet of cable. The one I have now has 11 feet of cable. There are USB and USB C ports where the 12V is usually found in a vehicle, so a shorter cable would work for that, but is anyone aware of a front only dashcam (not sure how to fit a rear one when the back opens up) that has a longer cable, or a front only dashcam with an end that can make use of the USB/USB-C ports I have now?
Thank you

Bridging the gap on a rear hatch that swing up is no problem, but you will of course ned to have a little slack there, but nothing nasty.
I have for years mounted off the bare metal rear hatch using a magnet to space out the camera so it is right at the top of the rear window where there is viper coverage, and then guided cables to a side, where it then transition to the headliner near the C pillar.

Most brands also have a EXT rear cable offering if the default one is not long enough, this have never been a problem for me but of course i drive a almost micro JAP hatchback.
So i can even route down low and out back if i want to, but i have often draped cables along the side of headliner just in front of the curtain airbags as,,,,,, i dont care.

Be careful using build in USB plugs, they can be drastic underpowered, for sure be mindful of this if a system start to act erratic on such a power source, if that happen #1 option is to try the provided power source to verify that is the problem.

You can browse the pic heavy " where did you mount your dashcam thread " we are quite a few in there mounting rear cameras on rear hatches.
Browse from behind to get newest stuff.

You do not mention the dashcam brand. Two options come to mind...one is the Donger Adapter: DONGAR Adapter that connects to the self dimming rear view mirror. Dongar has several product lines, so check to see which one might fit your Jeep.

Second, if the power cable is 3-wire, you could simply splice/crimp in a 1-meter section to extend the length. Just attempt to maintain the same gauge of wire. Make the splice in an area that will be hidden in the headliner or wherever.
