- A129 Duo x 2 / A139 3-Channel / A229 Plus 3-Channel
My A229 Plus 3-channel has run smoothly and trouble-free for the most part. The only issues I've encountered is the memory card error. And occasionally the cam would take a snapshot if I go over a slight or minor bump. Below I have shown 2 examples of the memory card error and 2 possible causes and fixes. There could be other causes I'm not aware of or have not yet encountered.
First experience with memory error (last winter):
This was caused I assume by the P8 and Cellink Neo Ext batteries in very cold winter temps. Outside of their recommended cold operating temp range. We had a very cold winter in eastern Ontario (winter 2025-2026).
Fixed:
Once the spring weather warmed up, the problem went away. Not knowing much about electronics, I can only speculate the external batteies affected the dashcam and caused some errors. I have no idea but speculating only because the problem went away once the spring temps warmed up.
Recent experience with memory error:
Things ran fine until I took vehicle into dealership for scheduled servicing. I always remove the external dashcam batteries, any removable cams and seal up the USB cable ends with (bubble wrap and sealed with masking tape). The cams that can't be removed like the Interior and Rear cams that are stuck to the window, I wrap those up with bubble wrap. I didn't wrap anything around the GPS / Power unit that was attached to my front windshield. Why would I need to?
Not long after the service, I started to have the memory card error. Intially, I would push a button on the cam and it would run again. Most of the time I would have to turn onto a quiet side street and reboot the cam. Only recently found out that, pulling the memory card out and putting it back in resolved the problem for a day or so.
I kept thinking, what could possibly have happened to the GPS / Power mount? Could it be shorted or something? It was the only dashcam part that wasn't covered. I let this go on for over a month or more.
Fixed:
FINALLY, I decided to change the GPS /Power mount with a new one and see if it'll fix anything. Well, it did fix it. I tried all kinds of things to get that memory error to come back. 'Turn on screen. Press the save video button. Do it again. Over and over. Nothing. No memory card error. Now, it could be a coincidence or there was an issue with the GPS / Power unit. I will keep an eye on it for the next week or so. Towards the end and why I finally decided to change the GPS / Power mount, was because this was happening once every day or every two days whenever I would do the following (turn on screen, press save video button). Can't recall if the memory card error ever happened without me doing that. So, why suddenly after putting in a new GPS / Power Mount, no more memory card error problem? I will order a couple more GPS / Power mounts just in case. They're not that expensive.
Posting this to show that the memory error could be caused by other factors you might not have thought about. I use Viofo 512 gb memory cards and a Sandisk 256 Max Endurance card. Never had to do any deep formating other than in-camera formats. It is possble othes who encounter the memory card error may have to do that and their circumstances or cause of the error might warrant it.
Addendum.
When I first bought the A229 Plus 3-channel, I was using Sandisk High Endurance memory cards (512 gb). It ran fine until the card was starting to fill up its capacity. Then I would get the memory card error. But this was a known issue as Viofo did not recommend the Sandisk High Endurance cards. Viofo recommened the Sandisk MAX Endurance cards. And their own Viofo brand cards.
