Yeah will be interesting to get video and hardware facts on the table, just looked at Ambarella SOCs and things have changed since i last looked at those.
When the camera can be woken up remotely, like the dride it probably have a #2 processor to pick up the phone and get things going so your remote viewing needs can be served.
CUZ i think with all main SOCs when they sleep they sleep, and so you can only wake them up by kicking them, or have a little partner to do that when you call in with your phone.

Probably a low power co-processor is what you're referring to, just to wake it up. Obviously not powerful enough to do main tasks, but the little side tasks it would be more than enough.

Ambarella SoCs haven't had experience with in years, they were buggy but then they became reasonably ok in action cameras so as you say, will be interesting to see how they've progressed in the time since...

Only AMBA camera i ever dealt with was the Joovuu X cam, at least as far as my grey goo allow.
But it is AMBA in my dji Osmo sction camera, and it have worked flawless the little i have used it.

O and i think, the original mobiius wasent that a AMBA camera too.

I too got the notification and have asked how many they’ve got out on field trial. I may get an answer.

Did you have a mini 0806? That was an Amba...

O yeah that's right, forgot about that one, maybe due to me managing to kill it fairly quickly, and rock thinking not sending me a new one.

Having reach out to Nextbase, they confirmed that (in UK at least) there is NO one, reviewing, field trialing or evaluating the new iQ.
All I can say is they’re super confident.
Their reply,

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your email, we currently don't have any out on the field trials for any of our products however we will make note of your email for future trials within the UK for any of our products we would like to pursue this for.

Thanks
Joe

That's a recipe for disaster. All it takes is one big tech outlet to review it and then take a dump on it.

Sadly, probably won't happen. All the articles I've seen so far are just puff pieces that resemble being paid off 'reviews'

So I'm editing the video today and taking a quick break to gather my thoughts.

As far as what I like, it seems like a cross between Blackvue and Thinkware in a way. You get the cloud features and built-in LTE like a Blackvue, and you get the more advanced radar-based parking mode like Thinkware for the lower power draw / long term parking recording. The radar transmits front and rear like the U3000, but also interior and out the side windows so it monitors more. They also use some AI to help classify different objects (vehicles, people, animals, trash, etc.) and hopefully cut down on unwanted "false" alerts via the cloud. I also like that you can remotely wake up the dashcam when it's in low powered radar parking mode if you wanna access any cloud features, something you can't do with the Thinkware, for example.

I don't know the exact power draw levels yet, but the idea itself is good.

Being able to record the distances and speeds of other vehicles nearby is a cool trick. I'll test and compare with some police radar guns to see how accurate it is.

I'm probably most concerned with the video quality given the Omnivision sensor. Given the price point, I don't want to see it lag behind in terms of video quality, but that may be the case given that it was delayed for a few years and I don't know if they upgraded the sensor at any point.

I'm currently scheduling a video call for next week with one of the engineers who helped design the dashcam and so I'm looking forward to getting into more of the technical aspects.

I've still got lots of questions and things to learn and so I've asked for a 4K unit with the rear cam to test and review. I've got a ton of dashcams on hand right now (also have an N4 Pro in the mail right now, lol), but I'll do my best to share what I find when the time comes.

So its " sense " capabilities are like some car alarms,,,,, i like that have requested that for long.
I am not Super worried about the OV sensor, but of course it have to be priced accordingly. The starvis 2 sensors, well they are "old" too, they did not fall of the Sony R&D division mid last year as i recall.

They also use some AI to help classify different objects (vehicles, people, animals, trash, etc.)
So, when your car gets attacked by a gorilla, it doesn't bother recording?

More likely to get attacked by a seagull here...

I think a silverback, can set off the G-sensor just by farting, it can for sure set me off if it flex a little, CUZ i like for my arms to remain attached to their sockets.
And a silverback will pull off your arm and beat you to death with it, if it feel like it.

Sure, it takes time to go from a manufacturer announcing a new component to it being sold, to dashcam companies doing the R&D to utilize a new sensor, and ultimately releasing a dashcam using that tech.

I tested their 622GW back in 2020. It did better than the 4K Blackvue of the time (also running an Omnivision sensor), but not as good as the Viofo with a Sony Exmor sensor.

Will be interesting to see head 2 head, if it struggle in performance, they have to adjust price, or PPL will go elsewhere at least for the IQ alone, then if the smarts are cool and work well, that might entice some people to settle on IQ

Not me though, i am solely focussed on IQ, nobody yet managed to sell me on the smarts department.

They have been doing OK on IQ, other things have not been so good, especially the battery and lack of warranty when the battery fails prematurely.

It doesn't need a silverback to scratch your paintwork, hopefully it will still record, just not lock the file, but who knows with AI:

Some are just asking for it,,,,, in Sweden.
