Nexus 2X (N2X) Dash Cam Review LN

Well looks like the Vantrue Connected app has been deprecated, and there's only one app instead of the two before. Good news.

Not there on the January 2025 update of the Vantrue app then :

Also, @Jeff_Vantrue can you pass onto the app developers to remove asking for permissions?
They don't need all these permissions to have the dashcam working properly and access footage off the dashcam. It's quite intrusive to most users.

I had three messages show up in less than 30 seconds when setting the app up.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the app permissions. These requests are system requirements, and users must grant these permissions themselves. Without this process, the app cannot be listed on the App Store.

Vantrue provides a CPL filter that can also be used on the front lens of the N5 dashcam.
This is another feature that allows some of the Vantrue dashcams to interchange some accessories.
The CPL filter screws on very similar to an D/SLR camera when lens are being added.

One particularly clever feature of this filter is its ability to rotate while remaining securely attached to the lens.
Unlike some CPL filters that are fixed or require loosening for adjustment, the Vantrue CPL is designed to rotate effortlessly, offering greater convenience.

The rotation capability allows users to adjust the filter to effectively reduce dashboard glare on the windscreen.

Wouldn't the two "Notches" on the CPL filter need lined up with the Yellow Marks?

Can explain further? I don't see any yellow marks.

Must be a reflection from the Photograph above. The Two Yellow Lines.

However, does the N2X have any markings on front Camera? I'll have to look at mine in daytime when I go to the car.

For instance VIOFO places t notches on their CPL filter and two white lines on their Dashcams, in order to provide for the proper angle in which to place the CPL filter.

Think viofo needs the alignment from memory because it doesn't tighten but I think the Vantrue does tighten when you wind it on (will have to check it when I get home haha)

Either way, line or not, it's all good, I would check there are no reflections at night off the dashboard for example - to check the alignment of the CPL filter has been done correctly

So with the Vantrue, they prefer you turn the CPL until you get the proper orientation with no reflections? That works, too.

I got my test unit about two weeks ago I think. No CPL included with my unit.

Did you hardwire your unit (Hardwire Kit) or no kit with your unit?
None was sent with me, although I didn't request. I have two cameras uses my fuse box. Too much to place a 3rd.

Yes exactly. Just watch the live feed on the screen or on the phone and then turn the CPL until you get the desired result.
It was very easy to do with my N4 Pro.

@jsmith
No markings on it for cpl ideal position however it does have a rotating lens to allow for fine adjustment with the lens.

Thanks for pointing out the' yellow markings'
It is just the reflection of the overhead lights.

The notches in that picture, that is just the notches to tighten / loosen the CPL filter retaining ring.

Recently i took the N2X out for a 9 hour drive from Melbourne to Adelaide.

The unit was plugged into a permanent powered cigarette lighter so the camera was never turned off.

To my horror the front camera recorded but the video was corrupted.
You could still watch it in vlc but the image was in black and white with retrace lines in it. The image quality has gone also.

The interior camera didn't miss a beat.

I contact Wendy but have had no reply.

Anyone else has a similar issue?

@Jeff_Vantrue

A quick demo of the problem.
No power loss between colour to black and white.

Hi,

First, please confirm whether your N2X has been updated to the latest firmware version. I recommend updating the firmware to see if the issue can be resolved or improved.

At the same time, please also check whether there may be any abnormalities with the power supply during use, especially since the unit was connected to constant power for an extended period.

If you notice any other issues or changes, please feel free to keep me updated.

Wendy is on Maternity Leave. This looks like one of a couple issues:

1. Very Likely: Corrupted Memory Card. What brand of MicroSD card is inserted int he Camera? Has it been formatted in recent memory? I always suggest using a Branded Memory Card with Cameras. I.E. Vantrue in a Vantrue Camera. Even if this uses a Vantrue Card, memory cards need formatted periodically. I suggest using SD Card Formatter. It could also be the card is faulty.

2. Possible: Faulty Power Cord causing erratic behavior.

3. Make sure your firmware for ALL cameras (Front / Rear / Interior) are all up to date.
