Taiwanese manufacturer of video recorders Patriot has launched a new model F3 with technology SHDR (Super High Dynamic Range)
Judging from the examples, the picture quality with the help of technology SHDR is somewhat better than that of a well-known technology WDR (Wide Dinamic Range). Details CMOS sensor is not known.
Claimed technology SHDR - another marketing ploy?

Interesting that this seller here "admits" that DR32 and Patriot F3 are the same ( at least he advertises both names )

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a23 ... 4838004359

Does it mean that DR32 has SHDR and 6G glass lens as Patriot F3 ?

I am confused ( not the first time ). Just wanted to share info with you, so maybe somebody can do more deeper research into SHDR technology applied by Patriot F3.
I am very happy with WDR technology video quality being tested 2 dash cams with WDR. So, now I am tempted by SHDR being better then WDR, but there is a lot of confusion here, at least between Patriot F3 and DR32 in that link.

It's a DR32AB, not a DR32.

Yes, DR32AB form factor is same as Patriot F3.
I just wanted to point out advertised info of that seller which is confusing.

He has main picture of Patriot F3,

then in the listing he has picture of DR32 ( without ... AB )

but description of specs is applied to DR32AB.

So, it's a triple confusion for the buyer.

I'm not sure why the Taiwanese all seem to favor this form factor, dashcam uptake is very strong in Taiwan so maybe some local market influence perhaps

What's the difference between DR32 and DR32AB? :?:

DR32AB has 6G lens, DR32 has 4G1P lens.

Strange that car-cam.us does not say anything about lens, but thank you for clarifying this useful info.
It does, actually.

Yes, you are right. My bad, didnt pay attention. Thx.

To jing713:

DR32AB is better than DR32, but Patriot F3 has SHDR technology, which supposed to be better than WDR, as they claim. Its to early to say if its true or is it just commercial trick to get attention to the product.

This is odd, since the sensor of the DR32 doesn't advertise as having such features.

WDR ( or lets say SHDR ) can be acheved by enchansing CPU firmware, but you are right saying "odd", because OV2710 peak dynamic range is 69 dB. WDR technology needs peak dynamis range about 100db ( up to 120db ) , from much higher class CMOS such as Aptina AR0330 CMOS which at the moment uses TioTech on GT300W or DOD LS300W.
I see here two things:
1. Patriot F3 uses AR0330 1\3 CMOS or similar.
2. That taobao seller messed up something with his ( DR32 \ DR32AB / Patriot F3.) specs.

If anybody finds more info, it will be welcome here.
I really want to get to the point about SHDR technolody, since I have tested nearly 2 month DOD LS300W with WDR and impressed with very good video quality.
SHDR claims to be even better than WDR, or is it ... ?

all I see is marketing fluff

I am keen to the same theory. Only way if Patriot confirms what CMOS they are using, but even then it is not sure to get better results than WDR, unless somebody shares some day / evening / night RAW videos ( not youtube, not yuoku ).

I tested the camera on your DR32, firmware from Patriot F3. As it turns out, you can upload them without worry. It works without any problems.
I'm curious about is whether you change the firmware works with SHDR?

I wonder if some day we will see a USDEHWDR (ultimate super deluxe extreme high wide dynamic range) on the market.
