Red light stays on

I have the camera hard wired to the car and it has been working fine but recently I have noticed that now and again the little light (which is usually red/blue when recording) is just red. The manual says that this means that the power is on - but it should be recording, not just sitting there "on". Do I have an issue here? Firmware is up to date.

I also noticed that when I disconnect the camera from the mount I am lucky if the battery lasts 2 minutes. Is this normal?
