Hi all,

I'm new here and also a new owner of both a dealer demo 2025 Skoda Enyaq and a Nextbase 322GW dashcam that the dealer forgot to remove before handing over the car to me.

I'm pretty sure the dashcam is hardwired in but I've not found the fuse box to confirm 100%.

Im just wondering if anyone knows if I can just reuse the same cable for a different dashcam or would the whole thing need to be rewired? I would like to swap the dashcam out for a better one at some point but probably won't if the wire also needs changing.

Hi C0mbat, welcome to DashCamTalk! Lots of great people with lots of knowledge here to help!

To answer your question: “No.”

First, I’m assuming that the existing wire has a USB-C connector on the end. If it is an older camera, it could be a USB-B/mini/micro plug, so it won’t physically fit into a newer camera.

Second, dashcam power cables do two things: they provide power and toggle drive mode with parking mode. Wires in a USB cable that provide power are standardized, so this will be the same from brand to brand. The specific wire that carries the park/drive mode trigger, however, is much more variable from brand to brand. There is no standard and this is how dashcam brands make you buy the hardwire kit that matches your camera. It “might” work across some random brands, but most likely wont work the way you want it to.

Finally, most power/functionality problems reported here are caused by people not using the official power supply from the manufacturer. Do yourself a favor and get the power supply that comes from your dashcam brand.

Edit: I just looked up the Nextbase 322GW. It is a 1k resolution camera and runs on a USB-B plug. That wire connector will definitely not fit a new camera. If you are serious about a dashcam, get yourself a new 4k camera with a matching hardwire kit. Any of the brands that are prominently featured on this website is a great option.

Thanks @EricSan . From Googling it, it thought that would be your answer so it was more in hope than expectation. My concern is some people saying that routing the cable down the A pillar on a Skoda Enyaq isn't easy as doing it incorrectly can obstruct the airbag. So many say to get it done professionally. I'll take a closer look to see how it has currently been routed. I wonder if it would be easier to route a new cable if I push the new cable in at exactly the same time as removing the old one. If not then I might just keep the Nextbase for now.

I would personally check to see what Nextbase upgrades are available, as they will possibly have the same connectors. I have enclosed your current manual in a compressed PDF format. All the best @MPH

Actually, the most difficult part is removing the A-pillar cover. Routing wires is cake, as is avoiding the airbag. For removing the cover, this is what youtube is for. When you run the cable, be sure to use zip ties to keep the wire away from the airbag. It’s pretty simple and not complex at all if you are a little bit handy. Here is an install that I did on a Camry. Pretty easy.

If the previous install was done properly on the A-pillar (meaning they used zip ties to keep wires out of the way), there is no way you are going to pull a new cable through at the same time you attempt to pull an old cable out. The cover has to come off to both remove the old cable and install the new cable. In some cars, the cover is just a pressure fit with spring clamps, so you just have to give it a yank (mustangs are made this way). In other cars, you’ll need to remove a screw or two first (this is how volvo does it). The Camry has a two-stage plastic clip - you have to yank it, the twist a plastic clip to fully release the cover. Sometimes you need to remove rubber door trim first. Just look up a video and it should be pretty easy.

Here is an image of the A-pillar in my Volvo with the cover removed. I just added my power cord and secured it to the existing wires. Then clip off the ends of the zip ties.

In most every car, there is already a bundle of electrical wires above the airbag. Just tie your new dashcam power wire to the existing wire bundle and you’ll keep it out of the way of the airbag. There is no magic or voodoo for installation. Just don’t cross any wires over the top of the airbag and you should be good.
