My spouse and I are elderly with limited technologic capabilities and we are searching for our first dash cam. Cost is not an issue. The reviews that I have read give the Viofo A229 Pro good marks. Does that model fit our criteria of reliable, easy to use and install? If not, what are other good options for us.

Thanks for comments.

I like the idea of a A229 Pro because it has a screen so you can see the settings. A139 Pro does not have a screen and would require smartphone use.

Make sure you get a VIOFO memory card, as others may be unreliable.

Yes, although as with any 2ch dashcam, if you don't want cables hanging around, you might want to get a knowledgable person/professional to do the install and get it powered with the hardwire kit. Car audio installers should be able to do it.

With all the Viofo dashcams, the default settings will work fine, so you don't really need to set it up, just leave it to record, and you have a choice of using the on screen menus or alternatively using the smart phone app for setup and viewing.

My vote is for the A229 Pro.
I recommend the 3-CH because it’s only $20 more, and the interior camera will provide great benefit in parking mode.
If you don’t want the interior camera to record while you guys are driving around there should be a setting so it will only record in parking mode.

Here’s my review of the A229 Pro;

The comments about the Viafo A229 pro are reassuring. Outside parking is not an issue so I am planning on the 2-channel system. I obtained by phone hardwire instillation quotes from area car audio shops with the quotes ranging from $150 to $350. Best Buy lists their instillation price as $79.99. What are your thoughts about doing the instillation at Best Buy? Otherwise I will read the reviews of the audio shops to select a location for hardwiring.

What car do you have? If it's one a forum member has or has wired up, it can be useful to know which fuse to wire to, for the installer.

I've had a client use Best Buy to install a dashcam and it was fine. I remember buying a coupon through their web site, and then booking an appointment and redeeming the coupon.

Dashcams are fairly straightforward to install and so I'd expect most any place, including Best Buy, should be able to do a reasonable job.

Great choice on the A229 Pro.

OK, fair enough no parking mode.
I still recommend the 3-CH model for only $20 more because it can film a potential traffic stop gone bad.
Or prove you were wearing a seatbelt, or not using your cell phone.
Or, it could be used against you if you were. Lol
Changing your mind later will cost you $70
Here’s what that might look like in action;

It looks like I need to bring the Viofo Type -C HK4 hardwire kit to the installer. Maybe I am not searching well but I am not finding which fuse tap to get for the 2018 Toyota Avalon .

Yes, I would do some research to see which fuse to use even if using an installer because "I like to know" and I simply don't trust some kid down the auto hardware store or even some non specialist installer.

Success. I did an additional search today and found that my vehicle uses Mini size fuses.
