Yes and no. Let's say you have a 2020 Silver Volvo hit your car and run. The dashcam captured a partial plate. AI is able to enhance the plate recognition and you're able to pull off enough numbers leading to a 2020 Silver Volvo. The police find that car was damaged or recently repaired. A court would accept this as evidence.

It would be a matter of leading back to the vehicle and determining if it was the correct person / car beyond a reasonable doubt.

Starvis 3 will be a product line of Sony image sensors. I'm not aware of any image sensors that have AI built in. Any 'smart' or 'AI' features are likely to be in the processor - Novatek or alternative - or post-processed on a computer, online server etc.

Starvis is the sensor responsible for the initial plate capture and quality behind the capture. If it doesn't capture the plate properly, the only likely option (for now) is post processing AI. AI in chipsets generally handle task optimization. Could code be built into the Novatek CPU to better capture plates? Maybe? However, that's not yet an option even if possible.

Was it Viofo with A139 Pro for first Starvis 2? Not sure about Starvis 1 though....

I would have put my bets on Viofo for Starvis 3, but there are a lot more prominent players using Starvis now so guessing it will be 70mai. Definitely not Blackvue, or thinkware. Either 70mai or Vantrue.

No, you're going to have to go back a lot further than that.

The STARVIS IMX291 was a 'game changer' for dashcams back in 2016. I hope STARVIS 3 is yet another step change in dashcam technology.

Hopefully. Starvis 2 'freezing' plates at night was the big game changer for me so hopefully Starvis 3 has another trick up it's sleeve to show us

I would suspect it will be a company with substantial buying power that can make a large quantity order. That leaves only a few players in this game. If I had to narrow it down, I would choose Viofo or VanTrue. Vueroid has the buying power, but they are a company that moves cautiously.

Regardless of who is first, it will be a quickly released dashcam with a number of image issues, followed up by a number of firmware updates. 🙂

There are things AI could do in-camera not requiring internet access, like models for real-time detection of license plates and enhancing them using different methods to the rest of the picture.
