Thanks for the data point, but as lufa alluded to, there are multiple 40Gbps enclosures available from Orico. Do you have a link to the listing that you purchased the enclosure from?

Which model Orico are you using?

Orico’s product names are rather bland, but as best I can tell, that’s literally the model name: “ORICO 40Gbps NVMe SSD Enclosure”. But it turns out I was wrong about that enclosure, I’m actually using a similar 20 Gbps enclosure, which I linked to above.

Indeed they are. One of the reasons I was curious was to try and nail down chipsets that worked and did not work. But, it is the wild west when it comes to enclosure chipsets and device compatibility. This is often driven by the amount of bandwidth given to file xfer, HDMI, etc. as well as chip brand. One brand that uses the Intel Thunderbolt 3 chip advises to not use in PC with lower than 12th gen Intel CPU, and don't use with certain memory. How that translates to dash cam compatibility is not known by me. There are other marketing issues as well were vendors advertise Thunderbolt 3/4 when using the Intel chip and really it can only do T3 properly, but there is grey in design specs.

But many of us have seen similar problems in the past with motherboards as well. Everything will work, or work better with accessories designed for Intel chipsets than what they will work for a non-Intel brand chipsets. This is the same with USB-C, many hands in the pot but some things just work better with Intel. What the dashcam manufacturers use for USB/TB is not known to me, but I doubt it is Intel.

The cost of the Intel TB4 and TB5 chips are $12 and $19 dollars U.S., frankly, I would have zero issues with paying more for a dash cam with an Intel TB chip.

Seems to be. Other brands can be hit and miss according to the majority of user reports.
