I bought the Vantrue S1 Pro (with RC08 DMS lens) specifically to help coach my 16-year-old daughter while she drives our new 2026 4Runner. The hardware itself is excellent: 4K video quality is sharp day and night, build feels premium, installation was straightforward, and parking mode works reliably with the hardwire kit.
However, for active teen driver coaching it falls short in several important ways:
The voice alerts (distraction, phone use, fatigue, etc.) are far too quiet. Even at maximum volume (Device Sound 5 + Voice Reminder 5), they are almost impossible to hear over normal music or road noise. It would be ideal to have either a hardwired or Bluetooth connection to the vehicle’s audio system so the voice alerts can automatically quiet/mute the radio and clearly coach the driver.
The interior DMS camera (RC08) only works when the rear camera is disconnected due to the single auxiliary port. You cannot run front + interior + rear simultaneously.
True remote/live viewing requires the expensive extra LTE module. The camera itself cannot join a phone hotspot or home Wi-Fi for remote access from home while she drives.
The S1 Pro is a strong product for passive recording and remote monitoring (once you add the LTE module), but it is not the best tool for teaching new teen drivers who need clear, audible real-time coaching.
I hope Vantrue considers these points in future models.
