Use External Power setting

I'm confused as to what this setting in the configuration does.

I have it correctly wired up to ACC and battery connections. I want it to stay on in parking mode for motion detection. Which way do I need to have this set?

The "Use external power setting" is for when you are using a battery pack.

If you have it correctly wired in so that the +Bat line goes to a always live circuit/fuse, the ACC line goes to a circuit/ fuse that is only live when the vehicle is running, and of course ground going to a grounded point.
You then need to set a voltage cut off point. Then once the camera detects that the ACC line has gone dead. It will then enter parking mode.
