We’re excited to share that the Vantrue P2 (Pilot 2) is now live on crowdfunding. The Vantrue P2 is the world’s first 4-channel dash cam with thermal imaging & AI detection, designed to significantly enhance driving awareness in conditions where traditional optical cameras struggle.

Key features:

• Thermal + AI Detection
– Able to detect heat signatures even when visibility is limited

• 4-Channel Recording (Sony STARVIS 2 sensors) – Front dual-lens (optical + thermal), plus rear and cabin

Dual Front Lens Design – Simultaneous optical and thermal front recording

6.25” Touchscreen – With CarPlay and Android Auto support

Smart Driving Features – Includes HUD, AR display, voice control, and driver alerts

Advanced Connectivity – Wi-Fi 6, OTA updates, supports up to 1TB storage

• Parking Mode – Buffered recording with multi-angle coverage

The idea behind P2 is to extend detection beyond what is visible, especially in more challenging driving conditions. It’s now live on crowdfunding: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...mart-dash-cam-with-4k-video-ai-powered-safety

Happy to hear your thoughts or answer any questions.

Looking forward to trying it out. I tried the Thermal Master NV300 Max last year and this seems to have some significant benefits.

It's a bold move to offer a thermal camera as part of a multi-channel package. Did you consider a front-only (optical + thermal) version?

I don't see any reference to the LT01. Will the P2 be compatible with the LT01 for remote access over LTE?

In some regions it is not recommended or may be prohibited to have a 'live view' of the road ahead displayed on a screen visible to the driver. It is one of the reasons we have screensavers on dashcams.

Is the P2 screen always-on? Is there a screensaver option?

This camera does requiring breaching the firewall to run the thermal camera wires, and will likely necessitate professional installation. The Pilot 2 does look like a game changer if features do work as advertised.

There are often unused pass thru in the firewall, or places where you can pass thru one more wire.
My car i could pass thru 2 garden hoses, as it is so cheap it do not have the AC that it is prepared for.
My concern can the outside thermal camera hold up to my during summer months often 2 times a week car wash ( automated car wash not doing that by hand )

I am myself interested as i have transitioned from full coverage insurance to bare minimum, meaning if a deer jump out in front of my car, any damage to my car is all on me as insurance only cover other part.
But i must admit i am not sure something like this could give a warning as far in advance as a grumpy old guy would need.
And on my weekly drives i do pass several stretches of road with signs indicating that there might be deer on the road, though i must also say that in the several years i have only seen deer one time.

I am also about to try a new dashmat in my car, got tired of the fading cloth, so i am thinking and have procured already, some black rubber mat 4 mm thick i will cut to size and drape over my dashboard.
Also have some other cloth in black that is UV resistant, but i am hoping i will not need to cut that and glue it to the rubber.

talking about thermal.

Day before yesterday i saw a review of a really nice thermal rifle scope with 1280 X 1080 resolution, BUT 😗 the 6600 USD price tag was no fun.

Thank you for sharing your concerns.
To provide more accurate installation recommendations for the thermal camera, could you please let us know the model of your vehicle?

Thanks for your questions! At the moment, we’re not considering a front-only (optical + thermal) version of the P2. The thermal camera and front camera are separate based on the various installation needs of different vehicles. After evaluating factors like camera angles and ease of installation, we decided that placing the thermal camera inside the vehicle made more sense.
Currently, the P2 doesn’t support the LT01 LTE module because its GPIO port is now used for other functions, such as supporting four external cameras and features like CarPlay and Android Auto.
As for the screen, the P2 has a screensaver function, and you can set it to automatically turn off the display after 30 seconds or 1 minute. You can also turn off the screen via a quick key or voice command when needed.

@Jeff_Vantrue

Does thermal camera require external mount or could it work inside the car pointing out the windshield?

The thermal camera needs to be installed outside the car for optimal performance, and the package includes a mount for that.
Most thermal cameras cannot see through glass - I assume the P2 is the same, therefore it needs to be mounted in front of the windshield.

@Jeff_Vantrue

I have been looking at material, but haven’t been able to figure out, the thermal camera, it is easy detachable like for car was ASO
Was looking to figure out if there is a pig tail wire on it, so a connection would be under the hood, not that it is a problem to pop hood and remove camera before car wash

Also i think mounting something like this on the front of the car might be illegal in Denmark, there is a inherent fear here that pedestrians and cyclists might get hurt, it is like some would prefer if the whole front of a car was made of soft rubber.
Not that it would stop me, but i am a rebel 😉

My car is a little Suzuki splash, actually for a camera mounted in that place, ideal CUZ the short hood of the little car taper off at once.
On the other hand it would make the camera very visible.

Is this able to run via the 12v adapter or is it needing to be hardwired?
