well after re-wiring the GPS and weeks of recording, resetting, locking up and overall misery with my 0806 I finally could cope no more and had to return it for a replacement. The replacement has just arrived in the post and it has a 4 printed on the screen protector. The GPS base unit is a little smaller and the camera seems to be a sturdier plastic (could be wrong though) and doesn't seem as flimsy when held.

Now for trials. Watch this space.

I just bought a second one from GearBest and will have it on Monday. I'll look to see if I have the same screen protector.

Ok guys. Bad news.

In the last 36hrs the 806 has froze (black screen - only blue light stuck on whether connected to power) 4 times. The only way of getting it back is holding down the on/off button for 20 secs. The max time before it freezes has been 40 mins. Also when looking back at movies (on camera screen) there appears to be a tapping/crackling on the audio. I think I have found the cause which is the on/off button is rattling because of the vibrating of the car. So I've just stuck a piece of tape across the button to stop this.

My setup consists of ... The original 12v car connector is connected to the original GPS base unit but using the 4th gen camera. Following from trawling forums I have now removed the power from the base unit and plugged directly into camera, so far done another 45 mins with no issues.

Will update as the week progresses...preparing to swap power and base unit for those in new box next to diagnose.

If anyone has any further help, please feel free to get back to me.

I don't know if the screen protector is telling you the version - mine said 18 and it was an early prototype.

You're going down the right route with testing with the provided accessories - if it still doesn't work with the provided accessories then test your microSD card with h2testw and if that passes ok then it's more than likely a return to vendor job.

the number on screen protector means the QC guy code of the TFT screen, not the camera version

Thanks for the replies. The main reason I thought this was the original one had no number on the protector at all.

Promising news....

I have used the 0806 for a week of driving (over 3 hrs a day) with the power cable directly into the cam....and not 1 issue. No resets, freezing. It powers on & off when the car ignition powers on & off.

Now for testing in the new base unit, after I try and remove the old one which seems very stuck in place.

I'm starting to feel happy at owning one of these.

I'm having the same problem. Were you able to confirm that this was the source of the crackling?

Julian, you say you returned it to Gearbest, what was the cost and implications involved if you don’t mind me asking? I have issues with a mini 0805 they sold me but they are now ignoring my emails

many thanks
