I purchased the Viofo Battery Pack BP100. I always get hight temperature warnings from the Viofo BP100 App while I drive my car and the BP100 battery is charging. While the battery is charging it is so hot that I can not touch it. Chatting with Viofo support, they said this is normal. It gets so hot I am afraid it might start a fire! Is this normal?

This didn't sound good.
I don't have the viofo Powerbank but another brand I use doesn't even get warm.

Where do you have the unit located?
It's it possible it is getting heat from where it is placed?

I will confirm with our engineering team first.

Once the BP100 is fully charged it automatically stops charging and becomes cool to the touch. It does not stay hot.

So I went out to the car this afternoon messing with stuff and then thought of this thread. Both my Blackvue B-130A and BBMC BI-750 were hot to the touch while charging. I'd never noticed that before.

@Chuck McCoy @rcg530 did either of you notice the BP100 getting hot whilst charging during your testing? Any high temperature warnings from the app?

I’ve tested 3 different BP100’s, and two different EP100’s, and a “new” model VIOFO battery pack over the past 1.5 years.
I’ve never received a high temperature warning in APP.
The hottest temp I’ve observed while charging in APP is around 110℉ (43℃).
However, it’s possible what OP is experiencing is due to high environmental ambient temps, and maybe installed location.
Last week in California we had a heat wave with temps around 105℉, (northern California).
Los Angeles is southern California.
I would like to see photos / videos of where it’s installed, and the wiring.
And maybe some temp readings with a $20 laser thermometer.
As far as bursting into flames, and starting a fire that’s just not possible with LiFePo4, (Lithium Iron Phosphate).

I have experienced thermal charging events with the BP100 during high amp charging sessions with my unit. My BP100 is part of the first production batch. I received it in June 2025. There are three internal temp sensors in the BP100. When the BP100 internal temp gets to 121F [approx] the BMS will pause the charging of the BP100 until it cools down to the 110F range when it will resume charging. In my tests, the thermal charging pause lasts around 10-minutes. This occurred when I was timing how long it took to charge the BP100 with a 0% charge level to a 100% charge level.

I've reported that information to VIOFO and I have been told multiple times that the BP100 is doing what it should be doing by pausing the charging session. The high temp charging pause events occurred while the BP100 was in my office with an ambient air temp around 85F. I've had the BP100 in my car for the past several months without any problems. The BP100 is not fully drained of its charge based on how I use it in my car, so I doubt that it has had any paused charging sessions due to high temps. I don't have the VIOFO Battery app connected all of the time while I drive my car, so I won't see these events while I drive my car if they are happening there.

The APP will pop out a high temperature warning when the temperature inside the battery reaches 50 ℃ as desgined.
It will heat up when it is being charged, and will cool down after being fully charged.
