WHAT IS THE PERFECT 3CH DASHCAM?

The thing that confuses me the most is that the u3000 has built-in wifi, so it can connect to the internet, right?
I take it you're conflating WiFi with internet?

If your car/home/office/whatever has an internet connection that it can share to other devices via WiFi, your dashcam can connect to that external hotspot over WiFi and use its internet connection.

If that's not the case, you will need to give the dashcam its own internet connection, which means either putting a separate dedicated WiFi hotspot in your car OR buying Thinkware's LTE module that plugs into the dashcam and gives it internet connectivity.

In the meantime, thank you all for the clarifications and help.

Yes, I got confused because any information about these Dashcams is not available in Italian but only in English so I often get confused.

Ok I searched a bit on the Internet for mobile hotspots for cars but I really don't know which one to orient myself on.

As for the thinkware LTe module, I think I only saw it on the UK website and it cost too much for me (£129-169)

So in conclusion I hope you can also recommend me a good mobile hot spot (possibly cheap since between dashcam and hotspot I will cost 600€ :,( )

Wow, great catch. I wonder why there's a difference based on jurisdiction. Something interesting to ask Thinkware about next week at SEMA. 🙂

Guessing because EU has a large volume of A-La-Carte sim card providers with pay as you go service, comparative to the U.S., with a handful of Major Providers leasing towers to MVNO's. Therefore, I surmise the cost of data in the EU is pittance comparative to the U.S..

Just out of curiosity, couldn't I use this very banal hardwire kit of 70 mai as a hotspot, since it costs little?

Well here they're charging us for Thinkware's cloud services, even if we're not using a non-LTE dashcam that solely connects via WiFi.

I'd reach out to Thinkware for an explanation. My guess is the cost factor, although I've personally never owned or used Thinkware, so I'm speculating.

70mai and Vantrue's cloud services are free
Downside is they don't have wifi options

That's my issue with any of the continuous recording parking modes. I really want some sort of event notification to get triggered when something of interest happens. Ideally I like both collision and motion, but again there's different implementations here.

@Jeff_Vantrue do you know which cameras record for motion detection on the N4 Pro S?

I haven't done extensive testing with the N4 Pro S yet. With motion detection you need to play around with the sensitivity levels to balance recording important stuff and minimizing recording every car, person, or leaf blowing in the wind. I've seen some companies also add extra filtering to avoid things like trees overhead or adding AI to try and do better analysis to determine when to trigger or not.

If you want some sort of internet connection, you need a SIM card to connect to nearby cell towers. Unless a manufacturer is offering some free data for a period of time as a promo, you'll need to pay a monthly fee for this, just like you do with your cell phone.

Most companies offer that for free. Blackvue charges if you want multiple devices, but it's free for one device. Thinkware gives 10 cams free. You can always look up any manufacturer you're interested in to see their approach.

I don't see any info about it on their website. You can ask @Thinkware Dash Cam.
As per our HQ, the release date will be on the 2nd of November

Viofo has station mode, but to set up anything with LTE would be long and convoluted process (LTE Modem + Router Combo + Raspeberry Pie with a VPN). Vantrue doesn't offer Wifi connectivity, because it has a branded LTE Module. I've not no problem providing a SIM card for Vantrue's LTE Module. Their Cloud service only uploads video events with collision detection mode, and sends still image notifications.

What can I buy cheap to have wifi in the car?
(Maybe with a SIM card)
I think I'm oriented on the u3000
Awesome! Just in time for SEMA. 🙂

Do you know why Thinkware Connected has a free tier in the EU, but not in the US?
