Just wondering if anyone has matched up the GPS sensor specs to a generic GPS module? I need a replacement GPS for my old SG9665GC and I'm assuming some cheapo aliexpress one would be compatible but am hoping to skip the line monitoring to figure out which data format it uses.

Ah I see on the GPS module that they sell:

Features
Chip MediaTek MT3337(ROM Version)
Frequency L1 frequency band
Code C/A Code
NMEA 0183 v4.1
GALILEO L1 open service(with upgrade)
Default: GGA,GSA,GSV,RMC
Support: VTG,GLL,TXT ublox binary and NMEA Command
Available Baud Rate 9,600 bps
Channels 66
Tracking:-161dBm
Reacquisition:-160dBm
Cold Start:-147dBM
Cold Start 29 seconds, average
Warm Start 28 seconds, average
Hot Start 1 seconds, average
Horizontal Position: Autonomous
SBAS
Velocity: 0.1m/s
Timepulse signal: RMS 30ns
Maximum Altitude 50,000 meter
Maximum Velocity 515m/s(1000 knots)
Dynamics ≤ 4G
Update Rate 4 Hz
A-GPS Assist Now on-line and off-line
Dimensions 47.0mm*37.0mm*12.5mm
Humidity Range 5% to 9% non-condensing
Operation Temperature-30℃ to 70℃
Storage Temperature -30℃ to 70℃

So NMEA 0183 v4.1 format

I can not remember what model, but once i did use a blueskysea GPS mouse antenna on a SG camera.
But generally i think everyone will say you cant just mix / match things as you would like to.

I dont understand why you bother with this old GC camera, compared to current systems it is like a potato.

A potato that still works and still captures accidents, which what most people want. A lot of drivers are not tech savvy, they just want something basic.
Something is better than nothing.

There is a new one on eBay AU for $69.00 AUD, but the freight cost would make it prohibitive.

Thanks. And yes it's an expense to avoid, less pollution and it has low actual use hours. The only problem with this cam continues to be RTC dying after car sitting and then it getting confused from that and overwriting 1 file over and over. (well and wrong timezones but thats minor)

Edit: seems like Quectel L80-R is a very close match in all specs. only issue remains to swap over to >1Hz update

yeah, and while i'm definitely tech savvy I do like to keep things working rather than spending another 200 to 300.

They appear to be available at OCDTRONIC.com who is the U.S. distributor for SG.

There's a link to their Canadian site in the listing.
