The Vantrue N4 Pro, also called the Nexus 4 Pro is a Chinese built, 3-channel rideshare camera launched in July 2023. The N4 Pro builds upon the original Vantrue N4 dash cam, one of the first mainstream 3-channel cameras. When compared to the original, the N4 Pro has improved across the board, from video quality, to features, to its overall design.
The Vantrue N4 Pro is based on the Novatek NT98529 processor. It uses a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 CMOS sensor for the front camera, Sony STARVIS IMX307 CMOS sensor for the rear camera and GalaxyCore GC2093 CMOS sensor for the cabin camera. The introduction of the STARVIS 2 sensor is a significant improvement from a hardware perspective.
Video Quality
The N4 Pro front camera records 2160p (4K) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 32 Mbps. The STARVIS 2 sensor performs well with very good video quality during the day and good quality for video at night. We find that the video is comparable to other premium dash cams using the same STARVIS 2 sensor.
The rear camera records 1080p video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 9.8 Mbps. Video quality is a step down from the impressive 4K video up front but acceptable. The video is good during the day and average at night. There is some graininess at night but the video is still quite usable.
The cabin camera, which is built into the main dash cam unit, comes with 4 IR LED lights to illuminate the cabin at night. This camera also records 1080p at 30 fps with an average bitrate of 9.8 Mpbs. The cabin camera does a good job of recording details in the cabin, even with low lighting.
Features
The Vantrue N4 Pro has a significant number of improvements over the original N4. The overall design looks much better than the original and the N4 Pro uses an adhesive mount instead of a suction cup. Note that some users have indicated the electrostatic film provided for mounting does not work well and the mount falls off. In this scenario, it is best just to apply the adhesive mount directly to the windshield.
The camera connects to the mount using a magnet which allows for easy removal. The N4 Pro camera can move slightly side to side but depending on your windshield, it may not be enough to record interactions at your side windows (i.e. police traffic stop).
The N4 Pro has a 3.19″ screen and g-sensor. While GPS was optional and WiFi not available with the original N4, the N4 Pro closes these gaps. GPS and WiFi are standard features including free apps for Android and iOS.
One area which can be seen as a negative for the N4 Pro is its size. This main dash cam unit is on the larger size at 116 x 85 x 45mm. However this does include the front facing camera, cabin camera and a 3.19″ screen.
The N4 Pro build quality is very good and the camera comes with screen error notifications. The dash cam also comes with voice control allowing for the following 13 voice commands:
- Take photo
- Video start
- Turn on audio
- Turn off audio
- Turn on screen
- Turn off screen
- Turn on Wifi
- Turn off Wifi
- Lock the video
- Show front camera
- Show rear camera
- Inside video on
- Back to home page
Parking Mode
Vantrue has also improved the parking mode options for the N4 Pro with the purchase of an optional hardwiring kit. The parking mode options include:
- Buffered Motion Detection
- Collision Detection (not useful as recording starts 10+ seconds after impact)
- Low bitrate recording
- Low framerate recording
Support
Like other Vantrue products, build quality is good and reliability appears to be good as well. Vantrue has decent support and does provide firmware updates. The warranty can be extended from 12 months to 18 months when registering online which is a positive.
Known Problems
There are no common problems reported with this camera.

Should I Purchase
The Vantrue N4 Pro is one of the best tri-channel rideshare dash cams available. Video quality of the STARVIS 2 front camera is impressive, build quality is good and the camera comes with many features including an 18 month warranty with registration.
The primary negatives are the large size and the $300 price tag. Even though the price is a bit on the higher side, the dash cam does come with 3 cameras. Overall an excellent buy for a three channel rideshare camera.
