The VIOFO A119 Mini 2 is a wedge shaped single channel dash camera released in Jun 2023. VIOFO, a popular dash cam manufacturer in China, launched this camera as a replacement for the A119 Mini.
The A119 Mini 2 is based on the Novatek NT96580 processor and Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 CMOS sensor. The STARVIS 2 processor is the primary improvement that the Mini 2 has over the original Mini which uses an older Sony Exmor IMX335 sensor.
Video Quality
The A119 Mini 2 records 1440p (Quad HD) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 30 Mbps. Video quality during the day is very good and night quality is very good. When comparing to the original A119 Mini, the STARVIS 2 sensor gives marginally better video quality showing a bit more detail in both day and night. Really an evolutionary improvement in video quality over the original A119 Mini.
Features
The A119 Mini 2 looks identical to the original A119 Mini and has the exact same form factor. The camera comes with an adhesive mount and cannot swivel to record interactions at the driver or passenger windows. The A119 Mini 2 is a very small camera with dimensions of 74 x 46 x 41mm. Like the original the overall build quality is good.
The features are nearly identical as well with a 1.5″ screen, g-sensor and has built in GPS. The camera comes with WiFi and has apps for Android and iOS. The A119 Mini 2 comes with audio error notifications as well.
Like other VIOFO cameras, the A119 Mini supports 3 parking modes:
- Auto event detection or buffered parking mode
- Time-lapse parking mode
- Low bitrate parking mode
To enable these parking modes, you will need to hardwire the dash cam to your car (the Viofo 3-wire hardwire kit has a low voltage cutoff and is recommended)
One new feature on the A119 Mini 2 is Voice Control. The camera supports the following 10 voice commands in 6 languages (English, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Thai):
- Lock the Video
- Video Start
- Video Stop
- Take Photo
- Turn On Audio
- Turn Off Audio
- Turn On Screen
- Turn Off Screen
- Turn off WiFi
- Turn on WiFI
Out of this list of 10 voice commands, the Lock Video one is the most useful, the rest are unlikely to be used on a regular basis.
Support
VIOFO is responsive to questions and have good support. They also provide regular firmware updates and take into consideration user feedback. VIOFO also provides a 18 month warranty (12 months plus an additional 6 months if you register online) which is better than most dash cams.

Should I Purchase
The VIOFO A119 Mini 2 is a replacement for the original A119 Mini with the main improvement being the Sony Starvis 2 sensor. This provides slightly better video quality at night. A very good dash cam with a reasonable price.
When comparing the Mini 2 to the popular A119 V3, if you looking for a smaller footprint and WiFi, the A119 Mini 2 is the better choice. If proven reliability and lower price are your top priorities, stick with the A119 V3.
