This won't be new to any UK members as it's pretty much the main item all over our news today, but Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear has been suspended "pending an investigation" - as a result they've pulled the program from the airwaves this weekend which is pretty much unheard of.

You either love him or hate him - I'm in the former camp and think he's great.

In fact I even appear in one of the episodes but I'm not saying which one (and no it wasn't as the fat Stig although I could easily play that role!!)

Hopefully it's not going to end up with the show as we know it ending, but I can't help but get the feeling it sounds pretty serious this time as he has dropped quite a few clangers lately.

Sorry to hear this, my favorite TV show! πŸ™

Hope its not the Sons of guns BBC style.

Maybe jezza get replaced by Chinese Stig

Personally i don't feel bad, rich **** with bad manners got fired, so what.
He should take that lesson.

He's been poking fun at politically correct knuckleheads for years, that alone is worth a round of applause ... I had a feeling he's got fed up with the increasingly communist, dumb down, Beeb and was getting ready to leave - hence the sale of significant share of the show to BBC a couple of years ago, and the recent hint that the show needs a new presenter ...

I just had a read of his twitter feed and see what you mean from a few weeks ago @Chode - the thing is Top Gear without Clarkson isn't Top Gear.

They could replace him but it wouldn't be the same show - just like Two and a Half Men after Charlie Sheen was fired!

Let's see on the air since 1977 That's about 700 episodes and i'm looking for a guy that looks just like Father Jack Hackett. I'm on it. πŸ˜‰
Season 4 episode 8 - I can't actually find the bit with me on it though!

Seen them at one or two car shows and the hamster was rude to a friends wife while refusing to sign an autograph, while Clarkson disappointed an entire owners club of fans with his derogatory gumph and only james may appeared to be normal !!!

I kind of think they are all old enough to be pensioned off and given an Austin allegro as it seems more fitting than seeing them struggle into a young mans car !

Absolutely! In fact, this is the very same analogy my wife used this morning ... 😡 and spot on it is too!

It was 11 years ago we saw them and back then they were sound to be honest, in between filming they'd just walk around the audience and have a chat and take the micky, that's kind of how I always think of them but it's not to say it's right these days I guess. A shame if not though.

Well i am old and grumpy and quite a special guy, and i can do a drift too, or at least as good as the hamster & captain slow πŸ˜›

I hope BBC know i am looking for a job.

I had BBC Radio 5 on tonight on the way back and they were on about this on there - it sounds like the other two presenters won't film without Clarkson so they're maybe going to put the show on hiatus for a year or two like they did in the past and relaunch it down the road.

They were saying Clarkson wants to do a farming programme next!!

In terms of Top Gear one guy getting put forward by a lot of people is Guy Martin - he's done a few shows over here and he makes good viewing.

Either way they both win - the BBC are still rolling in the money from old episodes of Top Gear and then Clarkson and the gang will end up on another network over here earning probably twice what they were on at the BBC. In fact pretty much everyone wins but the producer really but he'll end up on another show.

You're right about the Beeb rolling in the money from the show. I mean I know how popular and successful the program has been but until I read one of the articles I linked above I had no idea that Top Gear is an "estimated $1.5 billion franchise"! One has to wonder what Clarkson was being paid every year?

It does make you wonder - they came out with a cracking statement which was that he pretends to be a normal bloke but then he's got millions in the bank and he's friends with our Prime Minister πŸ˜€

They were saying on the radio that basically his contract was up next Tuesday and they've decided not to renew.

Which makes older stories from five months ago all the more interesting (some earning figures in this one too!):

It kind of suggests that he obviously didn't take them up on their three year contract if it runs out next week πŸ™‚

It would be great to have some proper technical content in the program again but I think TG needs a team and Guy is a one man show who doesn't know much about cars - he is a HGV mechanic that races bikes and enjoys industrial archaeology, very different to what TG has become since Clarkson returned. I think some of the series he has made have been better than recent TG series!

Looking forward to a new and different TG next series, just hope it doesn't take several years to get it back like it did with Doctor Who - the BBC often get things right when renewing things even if they don't turn out as you expect.

Good article. One can't be surprised that these guys enjoy their toys. Who could expect anything else from this group? Clarkson must be any idiot to train-wreck such a career. I've always really enjoyed him on the show but what is it that rich celebrities often feel so privileged and entitled to behave the way some of them do?
