Cam turns on, buttons don't work.

New issue: not sure if this is normal, but, the unit is now rebooting due to what seems to be a heat issue. Has anyone else experienced this? It's 35c here in Melbourne today, and the unit feels rather warm.

A little disappointing if it can't take the heat. I've got it mounted next to the mirror, on the black "grille" area of the windscreen which definitely feels much hotter when compared to the window itself

camera shouldn't reboot due to heat, power supply could potentially be an issue at hotter temps though

I noticed some purple "banding" earlier in the week. The bottom part of the screen was a purple and pink colour.

Any chance a cable or connection inside the unit has come loose?

I'll try using another cigarette adapter. Been using the supplied one, no issues until this stuff started 2 days ago. Also had an iPhone connected to the same adaptor, since getting it. No issues Again until a few days ago.

memory card is also a possible cause
Any reason why that would be? Card seems fine. I've copies files to and from no issue, no disconnections whilst connected to a PC.

I just want these issues to disappear! Argh.

I used a IR temp gun on my windshield ..
Outside temp was about 35c , glass was 60c or better ...
Direct sunlight = Bad ....

So looks like the contact points on the back of the cam mount are to blame. I can verify this because I have two units.

Unit no longer powers correctly when plugged into either gps mount. Unit does work fine when plugged directly in via the USB socket.

Christ, problem "solved" but now I don't know what to do. Maybe I'll just mount the non gps one at the back of the car.

Update: fixed. It was a power issue. Opened the unit as a last ditch effort, and the yellow power cable wasn't lodged/locked down correctly. Which comes from the GPS mount! Compared against the "other" working unit, and there was a clear difference - crooked.

So now we're back to A-OK, just patiently awaiting firmware updates!

I reinstalled the A119 Aug. 29 firmware and then the ver. 2.0 update. The 2.0 update didn't give much feedback that it was doing anything so I had to take a leap of faith that I was doing it correctly. It seems to have worked since I saw the rotation option in the menu and it appears to be working normally again. I haven't run it for more than three minutes so I will have to see what happens on my next drive.

But this is an A119S thread! πŸ™‚

Yes, I know. I originally posted because I was having a very similar issue with a nearly identical model.
EDIT: I went for a good drive this morning and it is functioning normally again. πŸ™‚

So the problem of shutting down/restarting has returned. It's a very hot day here in Melbourne today, and I think I've got it figured.

Essentially I was watching the screen as it began to "fade" or "flicker" ever so slightly. This happened whilst connected to the GPS unit, which is mounted to the black grille area.

If i removed the cable immediately, and plugged it right into the dash cam itself, the problem went away instantly. Unit would boot, and continue to work without issue.

Once I returned the power cable back to the GPS unit, the problem would begin again within a minute or so. I double checked the yellow cable, all good and connected.

Do I have a faulty GPS unit? Or is this unit not rated for "Extreme heat". My rear unit is mounted onto the plastic on the inside of the car, so it doesn't really get that hot or have this issue. The front, obviously to the glass.

Thoughts? Do I just "ignore" it and wait out the hot weather? Or mount the unit directly to the glass without the GPS?

Try running it for a while with power connected to the camera directly and see if it remains stable

Hi all. As the title says, my A119s turns on, but the buttons don't work. No recording either. I've tried resetting the unit by putting a pin in the R hole, but doesn't change anything. Picture is still visible, but buttons don't do anything. Still hearing the digital clicks.

Any suggestions? Cheers.

I have had 2 fail exactly like this in less than a week now.

Purchased from 2 different sellers on Amazon.

I am having a third one delivered today, if this one fails the same way I will just give up with them.

In my case I think the culprit is the GPS base, both worked fine until I put the GPS on the they both started coming up with "memory error"" with the GPS base on, but worked fine without it for a few minutes then suddenly just stopped recording and the screen stayed on all the time.

The reset button didn't work and I couldn't flash either of them.

Are you not exchanging for replacements?

Seems everyone experiencing the same problem at the same time πŸ˜‰

3 days ago my A119S stopped working which appeared as:
- no response on keys press (beeps are still here)
- no recording (record button remain red)
- small crossed rectangles (wireframes) appeared at the bottom of the screen
- I can see realtime video on LCD
- screen saver doesn't work
- i can enter menu only for a first few secs after boot-up. Leaving menu makes impossible to enter it again until power off/on

I did reset using reset button as well as restored to default using menu. Rectangles disappeared but the cam remains stuck.
Originally I have FW 1.0. Do you think flashing it with 1.0.1 will help? Should I try that or rather use warranty policy instead?

After a couple of days, my camera started acting up again. I kept getting the memory card error when it came on. Since it had been working, I decided to just do a quick reformat of the card on my computer and that seems to have worked. When the card 'failed', it had been through this cycle:
  • Full reformat
  • Used card to set firmware with Aug update
  • Used card to set firmware with Nov. (2.0) update
Is it possible that the bin files for the firmware updates don't get cleaned up correctly even though they appear to have been deleted? I checked my card when it was failing and it had filled up 3/4 of the card with videos. Now that I've reformatted it again, I'm not having problems.
