Store promo says: "Sharing is not a problem anymore with 70mai A800" - I just can't figure it out!

I didn't find anything about sharing in the manual or the app so I connected my phone (Samsung A20 with 126 gb available on SD card) to the A800 per instructions, sat phone on the dash 10 inches from the A800 and selected some video to download. It took almost an hour to download 15 minutes of video! When 70 mai says “Sharing is not a problem anymore” what sharing are they talking about? When I share other things on my phone or computer I just click a button, tell it where to go and its done.

The store promo further says "Share the footage to your insurance provider right after having an incident. Share your photos or videos to social media platforms including Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, VK, etc. Save your memories of anywhere you go and anything you see in the trip." They make it sound like its a very simple process yet I didn't see anything in the manual about how to do it. All I can find is the download to phone instructions and that takes forever. I know I can remove the card and read it in my laptop but that is a real pain (dashcam is hard to get to, card very difficult to eject, install card in adapter, install adapter into laptop, read card, etc) contrary to what the promo implies.

Since the dashcam has Wifi why can't I just link it to my network and download to my laptop or PC or use the web to "share" video from the app? Why else would they have that ridiculous password except to link to Wifi networks?

I understand that I'm not tech savvy so I'm probably making it difficult when it's really not ... so what am I missing?

Yes the wifi in dashcams are still very slow ( i get 300 mbit on my home network using my router and phone to test, and both do not support the newer wifi standards ) dashcams are much much slower.
Also why i dont recommend using wifi, at least not for bulk download but a single file now and then might be okay if you are a patient person

Though i do share ( idiots driving on a youtube channel ) then i do not get the want of some people wanting to share right now and here, i would never mention my cameras at the scene of a event, i would just supply footage to my insurance afterwards and then let them duke it out ( maybe in a court ) that is what i pay them for too, it can not be my problem if any part is fraudulent on their claim.
Any police officer showing up, that only happen here if there is severe injury or traffic is blocked, well he have no say in what happened, even the crash scene investigators are not the final say, though their investigations are often acknowledged as fact.
And i am not supposed to share any footage on site, if you are you can probably get by not doing so by simply claiming " i totally forgot i had a dashcam"

Granted in this day and age not all have a home PC, and the little spring loaded memory cards can also be a pain ejecting / inserting, so if you are not careful you can easy find you become a member of TCFUME ( The Club For Unintentional Memory card Ejection )

With the memory card in my card reader ) USB 3.0 card reader plugged into USB 3.0 port on computer, i get the full read / write speeds of memory cards, thin among other things mean i can playback directly from the memory card in the reader with no lag, making it easy to verify "this is the file i need"
And then copying to PC ( do not move this can cause memory card problems in camera ) i get the full read speed of the cards which are up around 80 MB/s VS the 2 or 3 MB/s you get on wifi or the 10 - 15 MB/s you get if you use the dashcam itself as card reader connected to the PC.

Regarding the "smarts" of wifi cameras, most often the camera can not work as a unit accessible from a home network, though some of the Thinkware and blackvue can do stuff like that, it is also often what you find the people with those systems have problems with, either from the get go, or after a OS update on the phone, not least the poor iphone people seem to suffer.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the only way to go is reading the card directly in the computer and forget downloading via their Wifi.

I realize that needing to use the video from a dashcam is a rare event but there are times when having the video quickly can be extremely beneficial.

Last week I was driving home from shopping and observed a theft in progress where a contractor was using special equipment to steal water from a municipal fire hydrant to fill a tanker. I maneuvered my vehicle to insure my dashcam was recording the crime as well as the suspects for identification and evidentiary purposes while I was calling the police. They noticed my observation and quickly disconnected their equipment and fled the scene with their tanker. I realized then that having the ability to "share" the video quickly would be beneficial for when I met with the officer. As it turned out, when I later read the files from the SD card I learned that the dashcam had failed and was not saving properly to the card as I got mostly grayed out video files. I installed this new dashcam hoping for the ability to quickly "share" video when needed. Obviously that is not the case.

As far as having dashcam video available for officers at the scene of an accident my opinion is different than yours. While I understand that your experience in your country leads you to believe that having dashcam video available for the first responding officer/investigator would not be beneficial, my experience here in the United States leads me to believe just the opposite.

I am a retired police officer with over 30 years experience with a moderately large police department. I was assigned as a motorcycle officer for 7 years with the primary duty of investigating traffic accidents and I have investigated thousands over the years. I would have loved to have video of the accidents I investigated to show the actual facts of the episode rather than relying on driver's/witness statements which were frequently spotty, inaccurate or false. Even minor accidents can have long term consequences to a driver because (here) insurance companies can penalize the at-fault driver by raising their rates for years (if not forever) and the insurance companies commonly used the initial officer's report of the accident to determine the at-fault driver and based their compensation on that. I have known of cases where information that developed later changed the responsible party in the accident that eliminated the criminal charges yet the insurance would not change their civil response without a court order which could take years. That is why I thought it a good idea to get a dashcam and can hopefully provide the on-scene officer the video when needed. I have been retired for a number of years and maybe that has changed now but I'd be surprised if that's the case.

Thank you for your great knowledge and information! I can now quit wasting my time trying to do something that doesn't work.

Yeah at least if you are grabbing several clips, or just browsing which is a breeze provided your card reader are fast.

Water theft :) then imagine if water was,,,,,, i dont know how much it actually is but Gasoline in Denmark are like 3 X of the US price, water probably the same.

Actually just googled a cubic M water here cost about 18 Dkkr / 2.96 USD. but there is the kicker to "flush" that 1 cubic meter of water cost 36Dkkr / 5.92 USD. :)

I should probably say that currently Denmark is run by socialists, though this is probably not something they came up with or anything new  it do not sit well with the Texan i have living inside me.

Of course tap water here is quite drinkable, bottled water here are just something idiots pick up as they think they are trending.

Sounds like the prices there are definitely higher than here. Hope the wages are as well.

The issue with stealing water from the fire hydrant is not so much the price of the water but the potential for damage to the system. The water system for fire hydrants is under extremely high pressures with very large volume and just turning them on incorrectly can cause a system surge that can damage the hydrant or the lines making the system inoperable and result in many thousands to repair.

The United States is also run by socialists … they just call themselves democrats. Texas doesn't exist anymore. All the yankees from New York and California have moved there and taken over. The first thing they do is change things to be just like the place they wanted to get away from. Its crazy.

I know … I was born and raised in Texas and own 70 acres there. I was going to move back there at retirement but every time I go there I have to leave to stop seeing how bad they're ruining things.

That's the definition of stupidity: Doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results than before  So far South Carolina has done fairly well keeping a lot of our culture and traditions but the 'damn yankees' are establishing enclaves and beginning to change things :( Mostly it's in the big cities so far.

Onto your cam, the A800 should be recording to the card quite reliably, and the video should be very good too. This cam is known for those qualities. But it, and all dashcams with it, have fairly slow wifi speeds compared to other devices, so I have gone to saving my vids in 1 minute increments where the cam allows that. It will take 3-5 minutes to get that onto my phone which should be fast enough for my purposes. I would like to hear more about what you mean by "grayed out" videos, as there seems to be something wrong with your cam. Also which SD card are you using? Dashcams need cards with fast write speeds, and many dashcam problems are actually card problems which are easily solved by using a better card.

And welcome to DCT :)

Phil

The old dashcam was a Mai70 pro that I'd used a couple of years. The disk was a 64 gb SanDisk Ultra Plus and I was formatting the card at least once per week. It was recording one minute videos and most downloaded files displayed a gray screen when played. No color, motion or anything else. It may be related to a dead internal battery that I discovered when I downloaded the files. I decided to install the A800 rather than tinker with the Pro as I had the A800 but had not yet installed it because I was thinking about buying a new truck and would put it in that.

The A800 does have good video however getting to is a pain and the company marketing pitch is definitely bogus. I will go with your suggestion for 1 minute files and see how it works. Thanks

I was wondering why my A800 took so long to download to my phone. Thought it was just MY dashcam issue. 3-5 minutes is what I'm getting too.
My other issue was resolution. It seems my UmidigiA11ProMax won't except the two highest resolution choices on my A800. Have to use 1900 level front and 1080 rear to get video to phone. Also, at times, the one minute file is too "big" to send. That's as small a video as I can record! Is the problem my phone? I use house wi-fi to send videos out usually. Using low compression the sending numbers would be higher.
