A229 Pro GPS

1. What firmware do you have? On my dashcam, GPS signal reception has improved significantly since the last firmware update.
2. The basic language of communication on Dashkamtalk is English. If you want to communicate in Russian, go to 4PDA.

My wife has an A129 DUO installed in her car. 5 years of trouble free operation! Still works now. My A129PRO DUO has been worked up to 3 years! Not a single freeze or crash during the whole time. Just amazing fault tolerance! Then I changed it to a 229PRO. The reason is a more advanced sensor. On the A129PRO the picture was too noisy at night.

But the A229PRO is definitely the most unstable of them all. GPS is definitely not the most critical issue here. I've had it restart recording sometimes. It feels like the second camera is losing contact. I managed to simulate such reconnection myself, when I disconnected and reconnected the second camera while the dashcam was running. But since such cases are not very frequent, I still consider A229PRO to be a stable dashcam, but not as flawless as A129 and 129PRO.

Viofo have released a new version of the firmware (V1.3.1_250214). Did anyone who had problems with GPS reception install this update? Are there any improvements?

I contacted Viofo support because of flaky GPS connection of my A229 Pro bought in late January this year. First thing is they pointed me to the f/w mentioned above. I installed it and interestingly got a GPS link immediately after the next boot. On the following drives however, the situation was back to "normal". I have a Ford Focus and the camera w/GPS mount is installed in the dotted area right of the rearview mirror. The car has windshield heating (thin wires, not foil) but as far as I can see there is no accessible, unheated spot.

From what I have seen in this thread, going through replacement mounts or mounts from other cameras is no solution. I wonder if the interface board is a good candidate... Maybe I ask Viofo support to send me one of these?

I have recently completed an exchange of the A229Pro camera body with Viofo. My camera had the same signal issues described here. Fortunately I could identify the body as the culprit because a different Viofo camera model obtained GPS quickly with the installed GPS mount. The exchange went very smooth, took maybe a week, so props to Viofo.
