A329 Test & Review PP

“New” unofficial firmware V1.1 241227
4K60fps
1-CH configuration
97.5 Mbps Bitrate
CPL Filter On

They were supposed to increase the volume level.
While the A329 is quite a lot quieter, it sounds a bit better than the A229 Pro. The A229 appears to have a significant spike in the frequency response at 70Hz, if they turn the A329 volume up then it should be good. Don't see much sign of distortion, but maybe your music/car doesn't have enough base to cause that.
I took a look at several videos with music playing.
The A329 is still quieter than the A229 Pro but does sound better.
Some distortion can still be heard if I crank the volume but it has improved.

New “unofficial” firmware test footage.
V1.1_250120
Change Log: Unknown
1.) Day 4K60fps 1-CH 97.5Mbps
2.) Night 4K30fps 1-CH 65.5Mbps HDR On
That is a lot of bitrate!
Most people are not going to use it set to that high a bitrate.
GPS is responding fast, it is registering your stops at the stop light as being stopped.
Need an audio test, your use of the turn signal is surprisingly clear, but this is not a very complete test of the audio...

Potentially use MediaInfo app that displays bitrate and more detailed information on video files

MediaInfo provides a large amount of info and is available for a number of different OS. I use the Text view mode in Debian, works great, lasts long time. 🙂

I've used it since 2016, always very handy like you say 🙂

I’ll perform another audio comparison, and gather test footage when the A329S arrives.

will a329s beat this dashcam? a329 current lose obviously
A329 did lose in that video, but that was a very early A329 firmware.

Does the A329 currently lose? It is not obvious, we need another test to know the current situation, and that is difficult, since almost nobody seems to have a PQ8 for comparison! The A329 is winning because it actually exists, I can buy one!

Even when that video was made, the A329 normally won, that video was a carefully selected set of clips showing that the PQ8 could sometimes win, If you read the video comments then the video creator explains this, the A329 normally won, but not always.

I would love to see the video of latest firmware of 329. if you have please share

This test footage was filmed with pre-production firmware October 13, 2024.
The first official public firmware was released January 2025.

Post #1 of this thread was posted on the 30th October, the firmware used for that test video was from the 9th October. Seems likely that all the testing on this thread is from newer firmware than was used for that video!

Night time HDR performance for reading plates was acceptable from the very first pre-production firmware V1.0_20241009

4K30fps
HDR On
Bitrate: 65.5 Mbps
1 Minute File Size: 472MB

I'm not sure how much it matters, but it looks like the Mikavi PQ8 is mounted on the left side of the windshield, so it's pointed slightly to the left, towards oncoming cars, while the Viofo A329 is probably mounted on the right side of the windshield, so it's pointed slightly to the right, away from oncoming cars.
