I really like the remote mounted SD Card Reader method because it lets the SD Card operate around 70℉ - 80℉ instead of 160℉ - 190℉ + when inserted into the side of the dash cam.
This reduction in temperature just for the SD Card is a “huge” factor in reliability.
When SD Cards get hot, they “slow down” and are more prone to malfunction.

Also in the rare event of theft, and the thief steals the camera off the windshield, the SD Card Reader will be in some other location.
So at least you have your data when you get back to the car.

There’s only one 1TB Micro SD Card that I’ve tested, and trust, (Vantrue Brand).
I’ve seen 2TB Micro SD Cards on Amazon but have not tested them.
This set up does NOT work with full size SD Cards.
It only works with Micro SD Cards.

I have purchased some of the el cheapo sd cards and flash drives as well. They do not hold up.
I do like that idea of a remote mounted SD Card Reader.

Everything is ordered. Except the short custom HK6 cable. The lady agent said they had no such cable. And I had asked if they could make a custom version. We shall see.
Everything from Amazon should arrive in a day or two, the camera in a week or two hopefully.

I’m confused, the standard HK6 is;
1 Meter Long: 12V Power Wires
3 Meters Long: Type-C Cable
4 Meters Total Length

I think 12” inches of Power Wires, and 12” inches of Type-C cable, (total length 24” inches) would be OK.
Maybe open up your “rear view mirror pod” to double check.

I think she was using that as an example, but I stated I would need one 12". So I will have to wait till late this evening or in the morning for a reply. I think 12" cabling will work--it is rather compact. The wiring harness from the light console to the mirror power plug was about 12".
