Thanks for the replay @Rayman.Chan. Going below is a bad idea on lead acid batteries no matter what other manufacturers do (one should not do something bad just because "everyone else does it". :) Anyway, I'm please to see that the new kit is well built and has sensible selectable cut-off...

The new one is certainly better, but I dont see any point going below 12V though.

@redrevis the new kit lets you set a higher cut-off voltage, as far as I know. This is good and important not to drain the starter battery on an ICE car. I would recommend requesting an exchange for the new kit if possible.

Ok, I see @johnf, must have been a deal they had that is now gone. $30 is a very good price for that dashcam.

Send the manufacturer an email, they are very helpful. They can probably send you the plastic pieces you need.

What makes hardware suitable to run 24/7? I don't have any reason to disagree with you, but also none to agree so far. The only person(s) that can judge if it is suitable for continuous operation are the designers, and they have not participated in this discussion yet.

Why would that be? Off course it makes sence to leave it 24/7, that's the whole point with park protection... o_O

Mine freezes as well after some hours or days. Very annoying since I have it always on in my car. Maybe a FW update might help, I have not tried that yet. Will report back if it helps.

I think you will have better luck with starting at the other end. Find an app that supports the camera and look for a API description of that app. Otherwise, wireshark is your friend.

I see. OBD is obligatory, but just the plug. So Tesla just have the plug, but there is a separate diagnostic port that has the CAN-buses with data. I have that plug already ;) The format is proprietary, so it's no good for this type of application anyway.

Looks interesting, but also a bit flashy. Why would I want RPM to be displayed on my videos? ;) Also the OBD2-plug is to no use for me since I have an electric car.
