I have spent the better half of the last month road-testing 70mai's latest release, the 4K M800. Read on to find out my thoughts on this little pocket 4K Starvis 2 solution.

Firmware: v1.0.37ww. The firmware version loaded from the factory onto the device was v1.0.37ww, and during the testing period I did not receive any further firmware updates.

App for testing: Android version v3.13.1, obtained from Google Play Store.

The verdict:

70mai has had quite the year in 2025, rolling out a number of decent Starvis 2 solutions in differing form factors. The 4K M800 is yet another, this time without a display to boot. The execution of this product shows that 70mai has given great thought to how the lack of a screen will affect the operation of a dashcam. What results is a solid dash camera in the 4K M800, for those wanting a strong 4K sensor up-front and Starvis 2 at the rear. I can whole-heartedly recommend the 4K M800 for those consumers who wish to have a dashcam with 4G surveillance support, and not necessarily wishing for all the trimmings.

My nitpickings:
  • Design issues: microphone and reset holes should be separately labelled to avoid confusion
  • Wi-Fi 4 transfer speeds and eMMC speeds are dated in 2025
  • Now that 70mai has multiple 4K models even at the lower-end, models such as the M800 risk being diluted in the product line-up

The positive:

  • Always solid and clear 4K video quality from the Starvis 2 sensor on-board; rear sensor performs decently
  • Seamless integration with the UP04/UP05 4G hardwire surveillance kit for parking monitoring
  • Build quality and heat dissipation is fantastic
  • In-built speaker is loud and clear
  • Reliable and detailed voice prompts make the lack of a display a non-issue
  • App and cloud functions are a strong point of 70mai

Seem to perform well.
I am however not crazy by the form factor as the wide housing are more visible on the windscreen, on the other hand if you have a sensor island you can mount off below it, this might be better suited than the traditional wedge shape.

Fair point, everyone has their own preferences for dashcam design but I must say the extra ventilation grilles are much appreciated.
