I updated to the new firmware about 3 weeks ago, and I've experienced couple incidents on powering up. 1 time it just didn't power up after I started the car, and 1 time it died in the middle of the "recording started" announcement. Both times I pressed the power button to turn it back on, and it stayed on fine. I don't remember encountering this behavior with the initial firmware.

I know everything was working just fine before you updated the firmware, but these are all tell tale signs of “power starvation malfunction”.

1.)
Can you tell us how the camera is powered?
a.) HK4 / HK6 Hardwire Cable
b.) Original VIOFO Brand CLA Charger & VIOFO Brand USB Power Cable included with the camera in the box.
c.) Any other type of power source, or cable is going to be suspect.

2.)
It may also be your car’s alternator / electrical system not providing instant / stable power to the camera.
For this reason there is a setting in the camera called “BOOT DELAY”.
You can set it for 5 Sec, or 10 Sec.
This will delay the camera boot up process until AFTER your engine has cranked over, (9.6V - 10.0V), and the alternator is providing a stable 14.0V or above.

3.)
What SD Card are you using?
Anything other than VIOFO Brand, and the approved SanDisc MAX Endurance, (not to be confused with SanDisk HIGH Endurance) will be suspect.
https://www.viofo.com/blogs/viofo-c...e-the-problematic-cards-returned-by-customers

4.)
If we don’t get this figured out you may need to SUBMIT A TICKET HERE directly to VIOFO for support / warranty.

1) I use the VIOFO USB cable-cigarette lighter that originally came with my A119 v3 (died) with a mini-USB to USB-C adapter - basically just tagged on the USB-C adapter.
2) I'll check the Boot Delay setting. It seem that the cam always boots up couple seconds after the car is started, at least it seems that the A119M Pro starts a bit slower comparing to my old v3.
3) I have the Samsung Pro Endurance - I don't remember if I changed the bitrate setting from medium to high after watching new firmware bitrate test above. I'll check to be sure.

This has only happened twice, and now I just make sure the cam is up and running before starting to drive. I probably should double-check the card to make sure everything is recorded properly. I'll update in another couple weeks or so. Thank you Chuck.

Well I think we just got it figured out.
If you want to go full bore for the next week or so, try using the CLA Charger & Power Cable that came with A119M Pro.
It’s probably still in the box right?

The #1 & #2 cause of all dash cam malfunctions is;
1.) “Incompatable” SD Card
2.) “Incompatable” Power Supply

The malfunction you report is most likely a combination of;
1.) A119V3 CLA Charger (A119M Pro uses 5V/3.1A) maybe your A119V3 is 5V2.4A
2.) A119V3 Power Cable (A119M Pro uses 20AWG) maybe your A119V3 is 22AWG, or smaller, (it’s written on the cable).
3.) Mini-USB to Type-C Adapter
4.) “Unapproved” Samsung Pro Endurance SD Card.

Just out of curiosity, did you re-use the A119V3 CLA Charger & Power Cable because it was already installed in you car, (power cable tucked behind headliner, A-Pillar trim, under carpet, etc.)?

I learned this the hard way.
When we got the original A119 Mini (IMX335) 2022 it came with 22AWG Power Cable.
After testing that camera, I left the power cable installed, and started testing A139 Pro 3CH.
A119 Mini uses around 3 Watts of power.
A139 Pro 3CH can spike to over 10 Watts of power draw.
That’s when I experienced “power starvation malfunction” for the first time.

I see this happen all the time in Amazon reviews, and in the comment section of YouTube video reviews.
A first time customer buys a Viofo “budget” 1CH dash cam for $100.
After a year, they like it so much they buy a “flagship” 3CH model.
They move the budget 1CH to a second car, and install the flagship 3CH re-using the CLA Charger & Power Cable from the budget 1CH.
They have nothing but problems, blame the brand new 3CH flagship, and say they’ll never buy another Viofo product ever again.

I tried explaining this to Bill in 2022.
I suggested to “standardize” all CLA Chargers & Power Cables with the highest power output, and thickest power wire.
But we have 7 different CLA Chargers & Power Cables currently for sale on the official website.
https://www.viofo.com/collections/charger-cable

1.) D6000
2.) D5000
3.) D3000
4.) D2000
5.) D1500
6.) A119 Mini / A119 Mini 2
7.) VS1

Power cables come in 3 different thickness;
1.) 24AWG
2.) 20AWG
3.) 20AWG
4.) 18AWG (coming soon)

I also suggested including a “small” 64GB VIOFO Brand SD card inside the box of every Viofo Dash Cam, just like BlackVue & Thinkware.
So the customer has a “known good card” to aid troubleshooting when they report a recording malfunction using an unapproved SD Card.
But that melted away faster than an ice cube in you know where. lol
Now with the cost of SD Cards skyrocketing, I bet that will never happen.
Sorry for the rant.

Yeah, I was just lazy and didn't want to redo the cabling, LoL. If this happens again, I'll try the charger and cable that were included with the A119M Pro and see. The thing is that this started after I updated the firmware, so I'm trying to see if anyone else had encountered the similar behavior, with the understanding that this is a fairly new model. I also wonder if the heat/temperature has got anything to do with it. It's been really hot these couple weeks and definitely hotter in the car when it was under the sun for a while.

Thanks for the input/suggestions Chuck!

The dash cam turned off in the middle of the "recording started" today again. I'm going to swap out the cigarette lighter charger and see since that's the easiest thing to do. Is the initial firmware still available somewhere for us to flash back to that version?

This is the last official firmware I downloaded from the official Viofo website V1.0_20251031 on January 11, 2025;

I started a new thread just for @red64 ‘s A119M Pro malfunction troubleshooting.

So I tried to flash the v1.0 firmware, but it didn't take. Either that file is no good, or the dash cam wouldn't allow flashing to a lower version. I was able to re-flash the v1.1 version.

I tried the cigarette lighter charger that came with the A119M, but for some reasons, it wouldn't power the dash cam - nothing would happen. It's got the same specs as my current one. I'll try using the A119M charger and the cable that came with tomorrow and see if that combination makes a difference.

I don't know how this happened but it seems my reply is in a different thread!

@DashCamMan can you move to the thread i replied to please?
Hi @LateralNW, V1.1 is the current version, and the version I'm on right now.

Hey I got my own thread! LoL. Thanks Chuck.
Yes, we were starting to go off topic.
I didn't want to clog up @Karagandinez 's firmware thread with unrelated troubleshooting stuff.

I was not sure why you wanted to downgrade the firmware, but I just happen to have that version handy.

Sounds good.

Well, if going back to the older version fixes the problem, then we can be sure that the problem is the new version of the firmware.

I agree, but also disagree because downgrading the firmware does not address the core issues.
1.) Not using “correct” A119M Pro CLA Charger
2.) Not using “correct” A119M Pro Power Cable (20AWG)
3.) Using Mini-USB to Type-C Adapter
4.) Using “unapproved” Samsung Pro Endurance SD Card.

Trying to work around an unsuitable foundation is like “fruit of the poisonous tree”;
https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/fruit_of_the_poisonous_tree

Also, the previous firmware is not “mature” and would not be advisable long term.
Downgrading the firmware is counter-productive.

Well, to troubleshoot, the easiest way is the undo the change, and in this case, the firmware, if we could go back. If the A119M started giving me issue from the beginning with the current setup, then I would be more likely to agree the problem is to be with the charger/power cable/adapter/SD card.

So the A119M's CLA charger just doesn't work - tried it with another lighter plug in the car and with the A119M's cable. I also tried the CLA charger that came with my old A119 V3 and an Aukey one, and both worked with both the current and A119M cables without issues. So at this point, I am just concluding that the A119M's CLA is defected/DOA.

The next step is to swap out the mini-USB to USB-C adapter with a new one and see.

On the SD card, all the reviews out there are indicating that the Samsung Pro Endurance SD is better than the Sandisk Max Endurance, so if Sandisk Max Endurance is on the approved list, why isn't Samsung Pro Endurance?
