Today's comparative tests done with my dual-cam setup:
IMG_0534.JPG IMG_0537.JPG

First row: Viofo v1.01 (24Mbps mod)
Second row: Viofo v4.03* (high bitrate, soft/normal/sharp, 1080@60fps, WDR off, EV 0, w/ CPL)

Soft:
11 v101.jpg 12 v101.jpg 13 v101.jpg
11 soft.jpg 12 soft.jpg 13 soft.jpg

Sunny day today, -2ºC at noon that feels like -8ºC.
Viofo firmware v1.01 looks like in between soft-normal v4.03, but with a much warmer tint. Somehow I still prefer it, though. (especially in winter time) :)

Thanks for this quick EXCELLENT comparison and the winner is ????? ==> 6Nx but its very very close, well done VIOFO !!
Unless there are any suggestions I'd like to release MOD-6Nx to Stable version for public use.

EXCELLENT comparisons, thanks for these old v1.01 verses new v4.03 photos. This is very accurate work and greatly needed by all to see the differences. I expected VIOFO's Strong to be on the unacceptable over-sharpened end, thats why I took extra time to modify ours to lessen that effect on 6Nx.

Yes, Nx is better.
Also i don't like the bitrate difference between 60fps and 30fps. I am a 30fps fan but not with 20 Mbps.
6Nw-vivid is my favourite so far.

I like the vivid one as well. I haven't tested 6Nx yet but it also looks great from what others posted.

@viofo for some reason has demoted and reduced Bitrate for 1920x1080 @30fps , since 2016 , to 15Mbps while 1920x1080 @60fps was raised to 20Mbps. They should be the same Bitrate, many owners prefer 30 frames per second for easier smoother playback on various devices, not to mention looks better on night footage. The new FW v4.03 does include Menu > Bitrate > High= +5Mbps but as you pointed out its disappointing, only reaching 20 and not 24.6Mbps used by 60fps.

Stable Modified Firmware will use v4.02 with higher 26Mbps limit in three different Bitrates = 22Mbps / 24Mbps / 26Mbps which are the same for 30fps & 60fps !!!!!!!!!!!
I will also create a Vivid version for the popular Bitrate.

Glad to hear that!

I will also create a Vivid version for the popular Bitrate.

In a few hours will combine MOD 6Nw Vivid + 6Nx to create Stable 6Vh Vivid.
Must first create new Stable Public versions 2Vg / 4Vg / 6Vg

I noticed VIOFO didn't fix the Mute icon but I will.

It seems that it is quite easy to mod this new fw 4.03 to increase @30fps bitrate to 24.6Mbps, but I am not sure it worth the hassle...

Also, it has the old bug of defaulting to 1080@30fps when looping through menu settings (from firmware -> resolution).

Actually there is no way to increase v4.03 1080p @30fps to anything higher than 20Mbps, the code can be set to 28Mbps but the final recorded MP4 video always stays at 20Mbps.

What’s the verdict on night quality between 6Nx and official 4.03?

Will this include the 6Nx sharpness fix for lens2 owners? I prefer the 118 vivid saturation vs 108, but there were clarity issues with my lens.

The correction for Lens2 owners is included in 6Vg & h versions. The new VIOFO FW v4.03 doesn't adjust low enough for Lens2 owners.

request your help to Beta test two versions of the Vivid MOD they will be 6Nxv1 & 6Nxv2 available later today and released to Stable tomorrow after you and other DCTeam determine which is best Vivid color saturation.

Thanks for the snow and slush 6Nx footage, your selection of Arlington Bridge for sharpness assessment is excellent. That Caddy cutting you off at Bridge entrance reminded me why I had to install dual horns in my Truck when in that City. This MOD works well on Soft level with your perfectly focused Lens2, the night clips look very good. This could be the new Stable version.

Load up the new VIOFO FW v4.03 and compare to these clips.

Problem with my horn is it sounds like it belongs on a bicycle... Yeah Arlington bridge is great, but I'm almost never in the north end.

This works for stable version I think too.

BETA Testing of A119S Vivid Colour Saturation using two different adjustments.
Request your opinion on which is most acceptable for Public Stable version.

The weather continues to not be ideal, so this sample is the brightest I could get outside using the official stock 4.03 FW.

1080p@30fps + high bitrate + soft sharpness + WDR off + 60Hz + CPL + lens 2

The settings that @viofo chose are pretty good. I'm a fan of colour and saturation so I like what they've done here. It's not a mess like 2.61 was. The truck beside me looks accurate, given the overcast day. A clearer sunny day is needed though to really determine correct colour choices. Even using soft sharpness though, I think it might still be a bit high for my lens, or is it edge detection? The jagged shimmer is still present, not extreme, but it's there. The low bitrate (20mbps) for high settings at 30fps makes it a bit difficult to figure things out. Might be forced to run it at 60fps just to get a higher bitrate...

I'm not a fan of the bitrate limitations though, as well as the lowered bitrate for 30fps compared to 60fps.
