I am having an issue with my Viofo A329S 3-channel dashcam while using Motion/Event Detection parking mode connected to a Viofo BP100 battery pack.

I understand the differences between the parking recording modes and specifically want to use Motion/Event Detection. However, the system is constantly generating false motion events. Within 24 hours, I end up with thousands of recordings, which quickly drains the BP100 battery pack.

To troubleshoot, I tested multiple settings and camera configurations:

  • Low motion sensitivity and low G-sensor sensitivity
  • IR mode OFF
  • Parking HDR OFF
  • 90-second delay after vehicle shutdown before parking mode activates
I then tested each camera individually:

  1. Front camera only
    • Worked perfectly
    • Only recorded 3–4 legitimate events over 24 hours
  2. Front + rear camera
    • Also worked normally
    • Recorded approximately 8–10 legitimate events over 24 hours
  3. Front + rear + interior camera connected
    • This is when the issue begins
    • The system records nearly nonstop every 2-3 minute intervals.
    • Around 2,000 clips are created within 24 hours
I reviewed many of the interior camera recordings and cannot identify any actual motion triggering the events.

Additional information:

  • Firmware is fully up to date
  • I have tested two separate A329S units
  • Both behave exactly the same way
I have already contacted Viofo support and also spoke with SafeDrive Solutions. Both attempted troubleshooting, but we were unable to find a solution. SafeDrive Solutions recommended posting here to see whether anyone else has experienced this issue or found a fix.

Any suggestions or support would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

The interior camera uses IR for night recording. If something is triggering that sensor, the camera will start recording. My suggestion is to leave the 3-channel plugged in, and put a black bag or towel over the interior camera and block the IR LED, IR sensor, and the lens. That will prove whether an external event caused the issue.

If you are still having issues, then the interior camera may be bad, the cable, or even the main camera where the plug goes.

At one time, I had an A229 Pro interior cam on the front windshield pointing to the rear, and an A229 Pro Interior cam on the back glass pointing forward. If something triggered one of the IRs to operate, the other would sense it, and the two A229 Pros would record for hours, each triggering the other.

So the recording issue is occurring at all times of the day, not only at night. As mentioned previously, I turned the IR off and tested it, but the false recordings still continued.

I’m confident the issue is not related to the camera or the cables themselves, as I had already replaced the original camera with a new one thinking the first unit may have been defective. Unfortunately, both cameras are experiencing the exact same false recording issue.

Bumping

Hoping someone has dealt with this or has the ability to test the motion/event detection mode for their dashcam to see if they might be having a similar issue.

Did you change a cabin camera to test? Is there any device that cause light changes or something like that in your car?

I have tried two different units thinking the first package was defective but both were doing the same thing. My car has a lock flashing light but I put 3 layers of black tape to block it. I also relocated the camera far away from that lock light and it still false recorded. Looking at the recordings, there is no flashing, light, or motion.

I'm wondering what would happen if you changed the image mode to the one where all 3 cameras are recorded on the same video. Would it work normally, ridding you of the extraneous interior videos, or would it now record numerous composite videos. Might be a workaround if it ends up doing the former.

You said you have 2 units. Are you able to test the 3CH setup in a different environment away from the car, just to rule out the car from being part of the problem?

You may take cameras home to test in this case. If the light you mentioned is also a IR light, it cannot be shielded easily.

Thank you for the feedback, but the issue isn’t with the number of files recording it’s more of the false recording itself.

I made some changes that I wanted to share with everyone that I pointed the in cabin camera forward, almost equivalently to the actual front facing camera, and there was still false recording throughout. This to me says that it isn’t being triggered by light or motion, but rather it may be a programming issue. Reminder that all settings are on low as well for sensitivity.

Are you able to do some further testing on your end? It seems like there’s a common trend with the motion detection settings on the three channel. Others are complaining that it is triggering in geo fencing while others are facing the same issue as me. I have a speculation that the cabin camera that’s attached to the main Source is getting a wrong signal to record continuous or a low bit rate recording instead of the motion detection. If your engineers could kindly look into this further, I assume there’d be an easier resolution with some sort of update.

In our end, we cannot replicate the same issue, and I really inspect that the IR light in your cabin causes the issue, especially your cabin camera has been replaced already. The simplest way is to take cameras home to test if it still cause wrong recordings in a dark environment at this point.

As noted before, the false recording is all day, not just night. Also, yesterday’s testing where I pointed the in cabin camera forward, should have resulted in no issues since it is away from IR. My front camera connected alone, records correctly with Motion Detection mode, being that the in cabin is facing the same way as the front facing camera, the results should have been the same with correct Event/motion detection.

What I can do is completely cover the in cabin camera and test. I believe there is a way to also lock the vehicle but without the in cabin light. Trying to see how to do this with the manufacturer.
