Any fisheye interior cam add-on for A229 Plus?

Yes...it seems electronic is much better. These prosumer Interior cams are relatively simple devices and can be inexpensive to build and sell, and companies save where they can. The only problem is that some do rattle. For the one I showed above, I ran a sliver of cello tape on the flat surface where the card/filter slides. That took away about 98 percent of the noise. But...I am silly at times and often take things apart to see how they work. 🙂

Any chance of a photo?

How does the electronic version of the filter work?

Sorry, I did not think to photograph the "tape fix". The flat tray that holds the filter has two openings; one is vacant, and the second has the IR filter. That flat try is really a thick piece of cardstock, very stiff.

Both the upper and lower edges of the tray and the bottom lay on the flat surface of the plastic tray housing. I used a piece of cello tape, laid it flat in the tray, and trimmed the overhang with a hobby knife. The cello tape I used has a very shiny, slick surface.

Someone mentioned they were hearing noise on their video due to road vibration or bumps, and thought it came from the interior camera. I had also heard noises in my videos, but due to wires and other things in my car, I thought that was where the noise was coming from. Turns out it was the IR cut filter in its tray.

I should go back and edit a previous post for clarity. As far as I know, the IR cut filters I have seen on digital cameras and astronomy rigs are physical in nature. Either analog ( moved by hand ) or electronic ( moved by software and some form of actuator ). That is how I understand it and know it, but I could be mistaken.

In dashcams, usually, there is a mix of light wavelength sampling from the CMOS and from a sensor on the camera, in this case, the interior camera. When a sampling criterion is met, the IR cut filter is moved to a position between the CMOS and the lens. The trick comes in determining the difference between dusk, dawn, dark, and being behind a building in its shadow.

The problem is that there does not appear to be an hysteresis or lag built in the algorithm that operates the IR cut filter, so in certain lighting levels the IR cut filter is kept being turned on and off in quick succession. I have mentioned to Viofo support and sent a trail video but they simply suggested lowering the camera view,

I have a confession to make. I'have the new Ultra fish-eye interior cam but haven't installed it yet. 🙂 One reason being I have the interior cam from the A229 Plus. I am going to install it soon over the holidays.

As for the issue mentioned here. I plan to install the fish-eye a bit higher up on the windshield and it may point "slightly" down just a bit.

I would be interested in how you get on, dawn and dusk seem to be the periods where the camera has issues.

I just installed the fish-eye interior cam. Should have done it sooner. I really like this fish-eye cam a lot for its much wider FOV. Too early to tell if I will encounter the above issues. But I have installed the fish-eye cam at a lower level which surprisingly STILL covers a wide angle (so I might not experience the issue talked about above).

How much power does the fish-eye interior cam draw vs the interior cam that comes with the A229 Plus 3-Channel? I ask because the parking mode External battery capacity seems lower when using the fish-eye interior cam. With my Powercell 8 and 2 X Cellink Neo I normally get 70 hours parking mode run time.

With the switch to the fish-eye interior cam, it is showing lower runtime in Parking mode, around 50+ hours.

I HIGHLY recommend the fish-eye interior cam. That big extra wide FOV is well worth it. So much wider than the interior cam of the A229-Plus 3-Channel. Not just wider coverage but also covers a lot more up and down

Please let us know if you have the same problems that I experienced - constant clicking at certain low light conditions where the camera is constantly switching the IR cut filter on and off. I have got so fed up with it that I now only use the interior camera in parking mode for increased theft / damage protection.

I just re-read the issue you had. Based on the fact that my fish-eye interior cam is pointing at level to the rear windshield, I might encounter your issue. I will at the very least check out the video footage.

In my case, having the video changing from black and white to colour isn't a game changer as my aim is just to record what is happening, mostly in Parking Mode. When I'm away from my car is when I want to see what is happening. Occasionally I'll want the footage from the Interior fish-eye cam while driving, say to capture family member converations and videos for memory keepsakes.

For the majority of the time, I am only concerned with the interior cam footage when parked when I want to see if anyone tries to vandalize the car. Still, I would like Viofo to fix any issues that may exist.

I love the Viofo fish-eye interior cam. Game changer for FOV coverage. I have it installed at eye level pointing into the cabin of the car. The IR is strong, lighting up everything brightly in its straight path. The extreme far edges are dimmer of course. Due to how strong the IR is, I am going to try and place the Interior cam further away, like on the windshield.

I have one too, and it's decent. I put it above the rear view mirror, and it can see out the sides. It's enough to catch door dingers and road ragers.

Make sure you have the latest firmware or it might not work very well.
