I was looking at dash cams and came across the Blueskysea Shadow1s on amazon. It advertises an ambarella a7 chip and a sony imx322 sensor. No doubt it is made in China. Anyone try one of these before?

I have one in stalled in my car now. I'm testing it along side the A119 ( pre-prodution unit)

The video quality is pretty good but it does have this unique low light feature that switches to black and white when very low light conditions.

You can see some comparison here: https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/viofo-pre-production-a119-comparision-thailand.18566/

I find the motion detect feature to be too sensitive, it seems it is always recording.

If you have any other specific questions let me know.

I just saw the comparison thread, for some reason it didn't show I'm the search results. I have a few questions I hope you have time to look into. What's the threshold of light that will cause it to switch to black and white mode? Does this actually improve what you can see (details and visible field of view) in night videos? What's the bit rate for the camera? Perhaps you could upload some sample videos? I would be grateful.

Thanks!

It is hard to say at what point the video changes, but it is pretty dark when it does. Comparing between the A119 ( which is still in beta) the field of view and definition at the point it switches to black and white, the A119 still see about the same detail in color, so not sure if it helps much.

I'm not sure of the bit rate actually, here is a link to the OEM's website: http://www.shadow-tec.com/content/?109.html

I'll try and get around to uploading some samples in a day or two...swamped with other stuff right now.

Edit: ok, here is a sample:

You can hear click on the audio when it switches.
