Hi All

Iv got my DR900s setup and working the way I want too with the exception of one thing the hot spot. I'm trying to get my camera to connect to my home network however the password length is very limited. Is there some way to get around this or is this a limitation of the app/firmware?

Thanks in advanced for any help!

Don't get too hung up on long wifi passphrases. They are all converted to identically long crytopgraphic keys before transmitting data over the air, so are all equally strong on the broadcasted data side of things.
Length is only an issue if it is so short (or badly chosen) that brute force guessing for logging in becomes feasible. To avoid that you need surprisingly few characters if you avoid simple words.

I used to use a completely random 58 character hexadecimal key. Not any more, it made things difficult too often.
I currently use a 15 character passphrase, fairly easy to remember and type in since it's two words, tweaked with a mix of uppercase, lower case, punctuation symbols and digits.
According to https://password.kaspersky.com/ my password can be hacked in 3261 centuries. Fine by me.
Even "dAS$hk8a9m" would take 4 years.

Supercomputers will be faster and PCs are getting faster all the time, but remember who you are really protecting yourself against. You only need to make cracking your wifi more difficult than breaking into your house, no need to go overboard.

Thank you both for the reply.

Rajagra it’s funny you mention your old password because that’s exactly what I am using now. I must say the websites and info you provided have given an interesting insight into this.

Maybe I am over thinking the password thing and would be better served to relook at that. Iv run into issues from time to time because of it for sure but I always figured better safe then sorry.

I will certainly do this for one of my networks and evaluate and see how it goes.

Thanks again for all the info!

To quote https://routersecurity.org/wps.php

"Have a really long WPA2 password? It doesn't matter, WPS lets the visitor in anyway. Change the WPA2 password every week? It still doesn't matter, WPS continues to let the one-time visitor into your network."

I'm still trying to work out how to ensure I'm safe against this. I have a decent router that has regular firmware updates, it even nags me to install them, so that's a strong point. But what about my WiFi printer? My WiFi Extender? My Kindle? And, err, dash cams with WiFi?!
