FineVu CR500 HD

Ok thanks, so now its between itronics 100 with power magic for 216 or finevu 500 with power magic for 340.. now theres talk of a newer itronics and newer blackvue dash cam coming out in December, not longer sure if I should by one the wo choices or wait for new cams so that perhaps prices may go lower or the newer cams will be well priced.
Also, I do not want to drill holes in the itronics for that will void the warranty it comes with (1 year) from the seller, so I guess im with the finevu 500. now to decide if I should wait or buy it :S

Hi Elvis7,

There will always be a newer and better camera coming out soon. The 2 cameras that you are considering are both very good, so I think you will be happy with either.

ive decided on the finevu cr500hd , its 340 with power magic on ebay from applect but they said I could buy the combo for 320 is I buy it straight from them off paypal.

Sorry, but CR-500HD includes "Power Magic". Read manual please.
Why buy Power magic?
If voltage drops low 11,7V, then CR-500HD power off.

CR-500HD +GPS - 325 USD

where can I buy a cr500 and power magic and a 3 year warranty for lower than 390$?

Hi Hanty86,

You are right. No need for the power magic since it is already built in to the CR-500HD. I had this info in the CR-300HD page but did not realize the CR-500HD had the same feature. Thanks for bringing it up. I will update the main page.

Hi Elvis7,

Hanty86 is correct. No need for a power magic since the CR-500HD will automatically turn itself off if the power gets too low. Hence you can get the CR-500HD with external GPS for under $325 at cool-guys or thebestservice4you. Adding a 3rd party warranty from squaretrade costs another $50.

My vehicle's cigarette lighter has no power when the vehicle is turned off. So if i wanted it to work id have to go buy a cigarette lighter jack and wire it directly to the battery?

Go to a car shop and ask them to give you a pair of wires, one ground and another power wire connected through a fuse directly to the car batery. Once you have that you can simply cut the cigarette lighter connector out and wire that camera properly.

Nope, it will not interfere with the car alarm wiring at all, assuming you will not power both the DVR and the car alarm from the same cable (but even if you do...).

Hi Elvis7,

You could tap the fuse box as well. Here is one way of hardwiring a BlackVue camera into the fuse box. This should work for the FineVu as well.

Ok thank you, i went out and purchased the required material. But if the cr500 does indeed have it built in,why do sellers seem to couple the 500 with power magic, power jacks etc?

Also, the guide doesnt explain, show much what to do with the Dual Fuse Tap.. Do i need to add another fuse if i will piggy backing of an existing one? Can i use the tap to draw power from an empty slot? Does the tap wire attach to the cigarette lighter extension ?

Hi Elvis7,

The sellers couple it with the power magic because they may not be aware of the feature. They also make more money!

To single fuse tap will allow you to piggy back into an existing fuse. A dual fuse tap will allow you to piggy back on an existing fuse and you can add a fuse to protect the new circuit. If an empty slot is providing power all the time, the fuse tap can be used there (you will need the optional fuse in this case for a single fuse tap). The female disconnect terminal and spade terminal are attached to wire of the cigarette lighter extension. Then you just plug in the FineVu power supply.

Hi Elvis7,

Are you using a CPL filter? Is the windshield clean? Is there a lot of bright lights in your car that can be dimmed?

Perhaps try different angles for the camera (a bit lower so you are getting more of the dash). Experiment with the angles as well, your hood is very shiny so try a higher angle that shows less hood (this might make the day videos poor though).

Note that the CR500-HD struggles with details such as license plates in low light situations as mentioned on the main site. But the light doesn't seem that low in the pictures you posted.

So this isn't normal for the cam? ive cleaned the windows inside and out. should I contact the seller for a return or use the cam for a few days and see how that is?

Here is a pic during a cloudy day, not good at all . All the videos on youttube of the cr 500 in action look fantastic, even at night.. why does mine look like crap?
purchased it from bestserviceforyou, could it be a fake?

Hi Elvis7,

I highly doubt that it is a fake. I have not seen any FineVu fakes and the text in your screenshots appear accurate.

As for the quality, it is hard to tell from the screenshots but if the videos are poor as well, perhaps your camera is a dud. If you are disappointed with it now, it will nag you going forward. I would return it for a refund since I doubt it will get better over time.
