FineVu CR500 HD

Ill see if i can have the cam exchanged. Does your site support video uploading? Ill just put it on youtube when i get home and perhaps we can get to the bottom of this . I really hope its just a faulty cam.

I put up some videos on youtube, night, grey skies, night with different settings. Also, the cam refuses to go into black and white mode...the settings say its set to bw mode but its not filming..

more videos on the way , snowy, light rain.

Perhaps I should have purchased a Cpl filter and kept it on day and night with the camera brightness set to medium and that would have balanced out?

or a lens like the following http://www.prescriptionglassesonline.net/cheapglasses/?help120.html

snowy weather 1

light rain at night

snowy weather 2

Thanks for posting the videos Elvis7.

Here are my thoughts. The day videos are not that bad. You could probably point the camera a little bit lower so that instead of having 50% sky, have it at around 40% sky. For the night videos, the windshield appears to have spots on it which makes the video look much worse. I`m not sure what the cause is since you mention the windows are clean.

The CPL filter would only help on bright sunny days. It would make it much worse on rainy days and night.

In both the day and night videos, viewing details such as license plates is difficult. This would be my biggest concern. Perhaps the focus is off a bit. Personally, I agree with you that a $300+ camera should perform better with details. Personally, when I purchase something and I have regrets right away it is better for me to return it since it will nag me every time I use it.

Thank you for your reply,
for the windshield, it seems that I will be buying new blades, these one seem to be worn out.
im just baffled by the difference in all the cr 500 youtube videos and the quality of the cam I got.
ive already wired the wires inbetween the ceiling, cracks dash etc but I will contact the seller now and perhaps request an exchange?
it's going to be snowing, raining and cloudy for the next 6 months so I really need a great quality cam for those dumb drivers that cant drive, especially in winter.
any other cams that would fill up the quality expectations, ive looked at your comparison sheet and it does say the cr 500 is very good at night and day.

Dear e.a.77,

Dear my valuable customer
it is defineitely same thing
Camera is so sensitive device so It changes depend on the circumstances and person ( I mean who has good on at camera or not) From my experience it is very good working at.
You need to research about the camera further more.
And if you wanna exchange you need to pay for shuttle shipping fee
In fact you need to pay 30% about the camera but I will take a responsibility due to I sold it to you
But I think you camera works well and please compare with other youtube before take an action
I never sell fake thing sometimes the products might be in faulty but you one is not faulty
Please understand my situation
Thanks and have a good day

Hi Elvis7,

There really is no dash cam that is great at night. Even the better quality Finevu CR-500HD videos from other owners struggle with details at night. I will update the comparison page to put "good" for night quality to match up with the Finevu CR-500HD FAQ page. Other cameras might capture the details better but they may be darker and more grainy. Hence no perfect camera exists and why I normally recommend cameras for under $120 dollars.

An exchange might be a bit better from a details perspective, but I think the glare issue has more to do with the windshield / vehicle than the camera.

Good luck with your decision.

OK, I will request an exchange when he gets back to me.
On my end, ive installed new windshield wipers, no more smudges when wiping the window, and ive cleaned the windows inside and out again. The picture is better but there's still the glare, for that I am wondering if I can find an anti glare lens etc.

Here is a video after I had installed the new wipers, cleaned the dlass and aimed the camera lower.

you can see at the beginning of the video the license plate of the vehicle in front of me is hard to see due to the light of my head lights reflecting off of the metallic white surface. For that I do believe that by adding a few stripes of clear boxing tape, to a small area of the headlight cover that beams the lights onto the plate from the wanted distance, I could reduce the amount of light hitting the plate and not cause any problems either seeing as it will only slightly be reduced at a specifi area and not the complete headlight. I will keep you posted 🙂

On a side note, the cam works really well in grey skies..Just the limited detail distance keeps it from being perfect.

quick question, am I supposed to be able to see the plate in this picture?, I had to upload a resized version of the image seeing as the original is 320kb and the site only allows 256.

I know the cam can take a Cpl magnetic lens, now I am tryng to figure out of center zoom 30mm lenses are made out there, the point being that only a small diameter is zoomed in on the lens,in the center, seeing as my cam is placed in the center of my vehicle, all plate will be 70% more visible, no?

Kinda like this link [url=http://tecra-optical.en.m...cra-optical.en.made-in-china.c ... -Lens.html[/url] but 30mm and a smaller center diameter..

Hi Elvis7,

The windshield glare is much less in your latest video. These dash cams have a fixed focus lens. So there is a particular distance away from the vehicle that will be in focus, while anything beyond that will not be in focus. Looking at your latest night video, the license plate is somewhat readable at 17 seconds (BPFM 185). If you were a bit closer, I bet it would be more readable. Perhaps the focal point for your camera is approximately that distance.

As for the picture, the same issue. The car is too far away from the camera's focal point. The only other thing I can think of is that the camera's lens is out of focus (it was not set properly at the factory). This is a common problem in many Chinese cameras but more rare in Korean cameras.

The night time videos are slowly improving, but as you said ; the focal point may not be off. this pic is from the cr 500 page on the finevu site :
finevu.ofscdn.com_finevu_img_product_cr_500hd_CR_500HD_04.jpg

here is a daytime video, I think ill have to aim the cam just a little lower, still no word from the seller.

The manufacturer's photos and videos are always ideal. I don't think I have seen normal users get the same video quality. Day time video appears similar to other CR-500HD. Just need to be close to the vehicle to read details such as license plates.

Dash Cam Man

The seller says that he showed the pics to the manufacturer and they said the camera seems fine and there is nothing wrong with it.
Ive noticed on a few videos that there seems to be a type of glitch thought it was my pc but after looking into it, it seems to be the video file its self, anyone know what its doing and why?

look at 7s

That is a strange bug. I haven't seen it before. How frequently does it happen? Perhaps try a different SD card.

The video quality in that video appears ok. Notice how when you were close to the car in front of you the license plate was clear. I think it is the focal point of your camera.

Dash Cam Man

it happens ever 3-5 videos ish, kinda random, I use two different sd card and both are different makes and sizes, it does it on both. could this be a faulty cam issue?

yup, one class 10 16 gig finevu card, 1 class 10 pny 32gig card

If it is not the SD card the only other thing I can think of is interference from another electronic device (GPS, Satellite radio, etc.). If that is not the case there is likely something wrong with the camera since it shouldn't be jerky like that.

Dash cam man ; there is nothing turned on (gps, wifi etc) when this happens, other than the radio, but that should not cause this.
