Just spotted this YouTube video of a scale model of Vulcan bomber flying whilst fitted with five Mobius cameras. When I say scale model it's a bit of a monster model being 1/5th scale of the real thing and weighs in at a hefty 139kg!

What really astonishes me is how pin sharp the footage is compared to my Mobius which seems kind of soft in comparison.

I wonder which lens version was used on these Mobius cameras to record the footage because this flypast took place on the 9th August 2014.

Not what I was expecting when I clicked on this thread. I thought it was going to be Star Trek related

The sharpness could also be contributed to not having to view everything through a laminated windscreen.

Good point, well that gives me an excuse to stick the Mobius on the bonnet, front bumper, or even on the front of the windscreen of my car for a quick drive around, have just purchased a roll of
VHB 3M Dual Lock Tape so will be interesting to see how well it sticks!

Ought to mention that 2015 may well be the last year that the genuine Avro Vulcan bomber XH558 will fly in the air.

If you're interested, then take a look at the official website: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/appearances.html for where to view the last few flypasts before it's consigned to the history books.

Yes, I went to watch it yesterday, most impressive aeroplane for it's age, only a decade younger than the Flying Fortress that flew over just before the Vulcan but a with a massive gap in technology!

I left my mini 0806 behind thinking I wouldn't be close enough for the wide angle lens so just took my little Olympus instead, might have been a mistake! :

Wonder what the YouTube image stabiliser will do with this video?
The Olympus SZ-30 is a few years old now but has some advantages over modern action cams:

Nigel you took some beautiful photos of the Vulcan bomber, I'm hoping to take a few pics next Saturday or Sunday when it flies over the East Midlands though still waiting for the exact times and dates from the links I posted on here. Am determined to take a few pics of the Vulcan for myself before the old girl is retired.

Will have the Mobius fitted and recording the whole time from inside the car using the external battery pack, so I might accidentally catch some video footage if it does a low flypast, though will have the camera and video camera to hand to record closer up footage as it highs overhead.

Your comment about the Vulcan only being a decade younger than the Flying Fortress was so true, and what a massive improvement in technology it was, and our engineers did it.

Nigel you took some beautiful photos of the Vulcan bomber...
The images above are all taken from video frames, my pocket sized Olympus reacts too slow to shutter presses to get images like that without great luck, but in video mode you have 30 fps to choose from. Still amazes me that I can take a camera out of my pocket and take images like those!

That was the second air show in a row I've been to where the aircraft were put directly between the official spectator area and the sun - photos from there are rubbish and the view wasn't much better, make sure you put yourself in the best place for good lighting, and a little bit of height makes a big difference, although I guess you won't have much of that next weekend. The red arrows display is carefully done to be seen from the official spectator area, but it's much more impressive from the sides, you actually get to see the speed they move at.

After that things got too complicated for a single small country and we had to specialise, Concorde was done with the French, Eurofighter and Airbus A380 with Europe, now ITER (experimental fusion reactor) with the whole Earth... I think if we want to go to the stars then Star Trek was right and we will need the help of the Vulcans! The Vulcan bomber does sort of look like a starship.

I was going to ask if you took any photos of the English Electric Lightning ... my all time favourite fighter. But I think the only remaining airworthy Lightnings are in South Africa...

(Don't miss its vertical ascent at 1 min 55 secs)
