Another reason for putting the GPS data on the screen. When you join sections together, I lose all GPS info in the new video. Or is this just a problem with the free software I'm currently using (VSDC)?

Sorry, that's the software I'm using to join my files together. It's a good program, it easily does picture in picture, but the resulting new video lacks the GPS data.

Yes, it works fine there. It's just that I want to do picture in picture, with the rear camera video embedded into the front. This works well with the VSDC software, but then I lose GPS data.
I'm just after the best of all worlds!

the data is embeded in the video, I'd guess the PIP is going to break that regardless, you could try exporting the GPS data separately perhaps

Another point re the GPS. Mine can't tell the time! It takes no notice of British Summer time, reverting to standard time, changing whatever I set it to on the unit.
