And is using this camera in very hot climates a good idea? (e.g. Nevada)

Technically CPU can work in hot climate, issue will be with battery. You need to change it to capacitors ( supercap ).

See post http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/the-mobius-heat-issues.2392/page-6#post-36892 for the probable cause of 'heat'-related problems.

If, as I do, you want to use the cigarette lighter socket to power Mobius & an Android phone, using a cheap adapter like https://www.ebay.com/itm/161165071815 may well result in the LiPo overheating issues described in Isoprop's Post.

I use a Scosche reVolt c2 to guarantee an adequate power supply. Brands like Anker are reliable. I also use the Mobius-approved 3 metre USB cable.

In a hot climate, I would swap the LiPo battery for the capacitor kit. Having said that, contributor murcod, for instance, is using 3 Mobius cams in the scorching Australian Summer with no problems. With standard LiPo batteries.

Not even battery issue. If you use continuous power supply. The sensor will be big problem. OV sensor spec is 50 centigrade. Aptina is 70 C. Only Sony can endure over 90C at chamber test. Korea summer time also hot. So please consider sensor also.

Mine are still going strong. We've had two heat waves this summer with temps over 40 degrees C - highest of 44C. Today was 37, tomorrow is forecast for 40, then 42, 43, 37..... :( http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/5361...-bushfires-fire-danger-queensland-cyclone.htm

One of the Mobius lives permanently mounted to the rear view mirror stalk (close to the windscreen with little protection) in the wife's car. It's ALWAYS parked outside and usually in the sun with no shade.

Perhaps I've been lucky? There's a lot of talk about the effect of heat on the Mobius, but you'll have to do a lot of searching to find any definitive heat related failures. ;)
