If you are trying to work out the best position to fit the dashcam you can make use of a laptop in the car to get a real time big picture of the cameras view this makes positioning easy.

I used some masking tape on the window so I could use a pen to mark the chosen position for future reference.

There are a couple of options I will detail here, you can of course use any other software that will show you a video feed from a USB device

Don't forget that if you are trying this outside the car you need to turn the camera upside down as it would be when fitted in the car to see the picture the right way up.

Do this first for either option
Plug the cameras USB cable into your laptop
After a few seconds then camera will show a menu "mass storage" or "pc camera"
using the up/down buttons select "pc camera"
wait for your laptop to register your camera (bottom right)

Now choose option 1 or 2

Option 1
select the start menu and choose "my computer" or just "computer" depending on your version of windows
when it starts you should see at the bottom of the list of drives "USB video device"
Click this and you should see the live video comming from the camera.

Option 2
then using VLC ( free from www.videolan.org )
start up VLC
Select "Media", then "open capture device"
it should have opened in the "capture device" tab, if not then select this tab
to the right of "video device name" there is a drop down menu
locate the camera in the list, it may just be shown as "USB video device"
now click "play" button and you should see the live picture from the dashcam
If you try and shut down VLC with the camera is running then it may not exit
in this instance unplug the camera and VLC will then shut down.

Please note the above was done on Windows XP so newer versions may be slightly different.

Hope you find this helpful, it may also work for other dashcams but I only have the SG9665GC

The video feed from the camera is 1920 x 1080 @ 30fps
Depending on your laptops resolution / window size you may see the display scaled to fit
