I'm surprised more of what they do isn't automated. I guess nothing can beat a huge warehouse full of low paid workers. Fascinating video watched nearly the whole thing.

3D printing will explode in 2014 allowing more things to be produced other places around the world.

most of what you see here is the parts you can't automate, things like PC board manufacture is where the automation happens, factory that makes our boards can do 10,000 plus boards per day, the machines run non stop, components are placed on boards faster than you can see it happening

3D printing won't change things in the production space, you can't beat injection molding for punching out product, a few seconds a piece, 3D printing is going to speed up rapid prototyping and time to market though so is still set to make a good impact in the development process
 
SpyTec (New York City re-seller) said he took some interesting videos of the factory in on his iPad during his last trip to China. They (the powers that be) insisted he delete them before he left. (bummer)

perhaps they caught something sensitive, some factories are wary about people knowing which brands they produce if it's a big name, sometimes that's part of a contractual agreement though
