Just another fortuner driver in Thailand

Camera car definitely needs a more solid mount.

A pair of morons IMO

Never been, but Thailand looks very modern. Assuming this is Bangkok? You always think of Asian countries of their 1980s and earlier depictions of motorbikes, bicycles, and motorized rickshaws.

All of the above, with occasional mercedes and exotic stuff to boot. Not sure where it is?

This morning on a 25 km drive from a village of 400, to a city of 400,000, I passed water buffalo and cows on the road, 90 year old ladies on bicycles, one pedal rickshaw, farm tractors and trucks, suicidal punks up on souped up 115cc motorbikes, families of 5 on one motorbike....7 sleeping dogs in the middle of the road......no snakes.

Any or all of the above are prone to be coming at you from any direction, legal, or not.
You rarely see a traffic cop, but occasionally see checkpoints for various specialised enforcement. (helmet, registration, seat belt, etc)

A friend tells me when they do the rare dui enforcement, they have a rolling lab, complete with ATM to pay the fine.
(Or bribe)

Thailand is kind of at the upper limits of developing country status, but probably wont progress for decades.

This is a country that attempts to battle massive flooding by putting a handful of military small watercraft in the rivers, revving the engines to push the water out to sea.

Old World Meets New World.

Funny Thailand has helmet, registration, seat belt, etc enforcement when a family of 5 is thrown onto a motorbike!

The enforcement is sporadic, via fixed checkpoints. Usually easily avoided.
There are next to no mobile patrols. Tourist areas and large metro areas you have more.

It's pretty common for unlicensed vehicles to operate within a few village radius, no drivers license, no insurance....maybe a 9 year old at the controls.

I just found out an old family friend of my girlfriend who owns a new car, has no license, neither does her husband.
She has medical issues that require visits to a big hospital in the city, always has to ask somebody to accompany her.....to drive.
Now I find out her unlicensed husband is smart enough not to wander into areas he may have a problem.

The enforcement is more revenue generation, than safety motivated.
A lot of bribes are paid, and some money is funneled into govt coffers
