I couldn't find any precise description for shutting down the camera. If powered from cigar jack, does it turn off by itself when I stop the engine or I have to manually shut down the camera from its switch before stopping car? I don't really get why there is an on/off switch on the camera. Is camera switch supposed to stay ON at all times, when using cigar jack?
If you are not planning to use cut-off device (e.g. LK-290) and will power from cigar jack, you don't need to switch dashcam on/off at all. It will be powered off automatically after the video file will be closed. Don't try to remove SD card before the device will be completely off , or you will get "invalid" file. You will understand that camera is off, when the display will be turned off

Also, if camera is powered from the LK-290, what's the safest way to shut down the cam (by switching off from camera button or by turning off the LK-290?) ? I've seen that the built-in battery is there for any sudden power drops, to help the camera save current recording. Is switching the LK-290 off while recording too brutal? 🙂
There is a switch on dashcam (top-left). I hide my LK-290, so cannot reach it without additional effort... If you are NOT planning to use parking mode, you may turn the camera off with this switch.

One note on Parking mode. I found out that camera is shooting video all the time. But saving the files only if it detects the motion.

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

Hi, I just recently purchased the Lukas LK7900 and cannot for the life of me change the settings on the camera such as time, MPH from KPH, etc. I have an iMac but use Parallels with Windows 7 and use the Lukas Viewer in the Windows mode. I make the necessary changes on the program and then save the settings as described in the manual. The settings do not change on the actual camera when I re-insert the SD card. I have formatted the SD card as specified in the Viewer Manual using the camera prior to saving the changes. What am I doing wrong? Can someone please write the instructions on how to change the settings so that they are changed on the camera itself? Or is it that I'm using the Windows software on my iMac? Please advise. Also, the date is wrong on the saved video files, they are a day ahead, how is this changed? I'm in the Eastern Standard Time which is GMT -5 I believe, but I have tried GMT -4 as well and also with and without the "summer time" or "daylight Savings Time" checked and unchecked. Thank you!!!

You need to "open" the root of your SDCARD, change and save the settings. About the time, you need to be able to get a GPS signal first so the camera will "know" about your time zone. It will remember your time after that.

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

Please explain "open the root of your SD Card" to save my settings. I thought that the Program Viewer automatically changes these settings. How do I open the root of my SD card so as to have the viewer save the settings in the proper place? Where is it saving them by default?

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

Thanks for the help, found the problem as you've indicated. For some reason the viewer was writing to A:\config.bin and not X:\config.bin which is the SD card on my system configuration. I suppose this is a default of Parallels 8. All working fine now, including the date. Thanks again!

Lukas LK-7900 Ace (Settings / Questions)

First, I absolutely love my LK-7900 Ace. It is by far the most superior dash cam solution I have used in this price range.

I am having one issue though. My camera does not seem to be detecting or displaying license plate information. Is this effected by a setting within the Lukas Ace viewer? Can someone please guide me on how to resolve this?

I will upload some day and night videos this weekend. I also just shot some video while driving in heavy rain which I will try to upload within the next hour.

Do you have the latest viewer? No problems here.

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

I believe so - I'm using Lukas Ace software version 1.7.8.0 in combination with hardware firmware Ac25.

I am still unable to see any License Plate recognition though and I find this to be quite disappointing.

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

I think it's a Lukas thing and it has to do with the relatively low bit rate viz a viz its compression algorithm -- the highest quality setting coughs out only 11-12 mbps, compared with the Mobius' 18 mbps, for instance. I don't have a problem with plate numbers right in front; I only get difficult-to-read plates in low light and when these are on the left or right side.

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

I intentionally drove up as close as possible to one of my family members cars in the driveway and no luck. I did the same with some cars parked on the street in front of my neighbors home. It simply does not put up the information. I'm quite disappointed.

what do you mean exactly?

When I am behind a vehicle with a clear license plate, the plates information is not displayed on the video like the other information that it has (time/speed/recording mode/etc.).

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

Do you mean when you later watch the footage you recorded that the licence plates are not clear enough to make out the detail?

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

Think you have mistaken the feature. It doesn't automatically detect number plates.

that's what I think he was thinking but just wanted to confirm

In my manual (p. 27) it shows a Video Screen Details and number 3 says "Car number plate display". I assumed it was reading the plate in front of you and displaying it. If it's not, then what exactly is it displaying? When I saw that information in the manual I thought "wow, that's a neat feature!"

As for image quality and sharpness, this camera is fantastic, very crisp and fluid video with zero choppiness! 😀

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

@ everglades I think I am right in saying its for entering your own car registration,if like some people who use the camera in different cars and save files they can change the number plate to which ever car they are driving at the time. It seems a little gimmicky but some might find it useful. Ipol

Yes, you are right about the function. I find it useful as the more info on the file the better the clip is. I guess you could enter your name or other text though limited. I enter the make and year of my car like 13 Lexus

Re: Lukas LK-7900 Ace Review (With Sample Day and Night Vide

You are both correct, I made a mistake in understanding the feature/function and although I feel silly I'm not embarrassed because the technology does exist as cited in the above posts. I could see a reason for adding this feature in the future but I do agree that the general consumer has zero need for it. That was why I was "shocked" when I thought my cam had it and it was not working, lol!

Anyway, feel free to select 1080p for the video quality option via YouTube. Used with the CPL filter. Feel free to call me the "Uh" guy, I'm not used to doing reviews like this without a script. 😉 I do think this was a good video though.

Daytime
I purchased my Lukas Blackbox 7900 unit off of eBay but it's also available on Amazon. This has superior video quality to the DOD units currently available here in the States. I would go as far as to argue this is one of the best dash cameras available to US consumers right now.

This video is using the CPL filter. I also have the UV filter.

For storage, I am using the SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC (SDSDQU-064G) not to be confused with (SDSDQUI-064G). The version I purchased is $49.99 and is used in mobile phones. The version with the "I" in it is for camcorders and high-end video recording devices. The price for these cards sometimes exceed $100 but are at cheapest $99 USD.

The point being, you can upgrade your storage on the cheap and have amazing quality video. The only recommendation I have is to keep the Microphone setting at the default of 2, especially if you play your stereo often.

My second attempt at the same video. I think I used the words "Good ol' USA" too many times though, lol. Anyway, I hope these two videos have a vetter demonstration of the video quality that comes with this camera. I am extremely happy with my purchase. ps - The "Soviet areas" do not exist anymore..."
