Hi, I live in Texas so I specifically got the S1 due to its heat tolerance. It attaches fine on my SUV which has a more upright windshield. However, I bought one for my daughter who drives a black K5 with a more sloped windshield. The 3M VHB tape won't stay on even with 3M primer applied. The heat makes the adhesive on the VHB give and the camera falls off with time.

I noticed when replacing the VHB tape on the mount, that there is a keyhole in the middle of the adhesive side of the mount. Is there something that will attach there. I was thinking of trying a mirror stem clamp, but attachment options don't seem to fit the keyhole.

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks

I honestly do not know the purpose of the hole in that Power/GPS case. I would not think it is for cooling as it is covered up by the tape. I have had the GPS module apart, and I don't think there is enough space to easily use a pin or threaded mounting solution. However, if you happen to be a machinist, you could probably prove me wrong. 🙂

I am surprised the unit is not sticking to the glass. There may be an issue with using 3M primer, as it is solvent-based and contains several potentially cancer-causing components. It is not rated for automobile safety glass, but it may work as a cleaner on it, I suppose. Being solvent-based, there may be a slight film left on the glass that is weakening the adhesion of the mounting tape. Avoid any of the citrus-type cleaners as they do leave a slight oily film on the surface. Generally, 90% IPA is usually enough to clean the surface. I use 6-inch square IPA wipes on my glass, and so far, there have been no issues with getting stuff to stick to the glass.

Have you tried the clear, self-sticking film?

Thanks,
I have a ceramic window tint on the windshield. I was hesitant to apply the VHB to the tint due to concerns about damaging it. I purchased a Thinkware heat blocking film for U3000 pro. it is a black adhesive square. I applied this to the windshield/tint and used the 3M primer on it and the mount before applying the VHB. I wiped with IPA prior. I had the same issue with VHB sticking on a Thinkware dashcam in our subaru crosstrek. Ultimately, applying the primer and heatshield worked for that one.

the keyhole has no function . Just remove air between tape and mount .
and did you solve the problem or still have problem ?

I emailed Vueroid as well.
They suggested not attaching the cam to the mount for 48hrs to allow the VHB bond to form and strengthen. So we will see.

have you seen this video?

Thank you. I used an adhesion promotor stick/primer that I bought on Amazon. The VHB came off the windshield, not the dashcam.
Did you clean the windshield prior with alcohol wipes?

I have a ceramic tint on the windshield. I'm not sure if that matters.

So this is for a Kia K5? Do you have a picture of where you mounted the unit?

No picture on me right now, but it is on the drivers side of the mirror next to the black frits around the mirror and about an inch from the headliner

For years i have tried to mount dashcams, and NOT get a bubble of ait in the middle of the tape, but it seem like this is a unavoidable thing.
Mind you having cameras come off the glass i have pretty much never had, but mounts coming off tape i have seen, every time with systems i have moved ( cleaned surface on mount and of course and brand new tape )

A bubble, hmm. Maybe if I applied the VHB to the windshield first, and then applied the mount to the VHB it would avoid the bubble. The hole in the middle of the mount is to allow air out to avoid a bubble.

My experience is that all manufacturer supplied VHB will fail at some point. I've found that this tape works orders of magnitude better. Even though it says it's permanent it can be removed, just takes some effort.

Recently, we have received several complaints through our CS channel regarding tape adhesion issues, specifically about the product falling off. Since we cannot verify the exact attachment process on the customer's end, we typically go through a series of verification steps. However, most customers find this process unpleasant or frustrating, and they generally tend to question the performance of the tape itself. This is why we put another extra tape in the box.

During the development of the VUEROID S1 4K, we tested and validated various 3M tapes. In particular, one of the feedback items raised just prior to mass production was that the center of the tape lifted and failed to adhere completely after installation. To address this and ensure a tighter seal against curved windshields, we adopted the 3M 5962, which is thicker and carries a higher unit cost than the previous tape.

As shown in the table below, we evaluate its heat resistance to be more than sufficient. (By Gemini 3.5 Flash)

Have a good day~

1. Surviving Extreme Summer HeatIn peak summer, the temperature of a car's windshield parked under direct sunlight can skyrocket to 80°C–90°C (176°F–194°F). Standard consumer heavy-duty tapes (like 414DC) can soften and turn gooey under this heat, causing the dashcam to fall off. VHB 5962 is engineered to withstand short-term heat up to 149°C (300°F), ensuring it stays firmly in place.

2. Superior Bonding to Plastic MountsMost dashcam mounts are made of hard plastics like ABS or Polycarbonate (PC). VHB 5962 uses a "modified acrylic" adhesive specifically designed to bite into difficult, medium-to-low surface energy plastics where regular tapes struggle to grip.

3. 1.6mm Thickness for Shock AbsorptionA car's windshield is curved, while the dashcam mount is usually flat. The 5962 model features a 1.6mm thick, highly conformable foam core. This allows it to conform to microscopic irregularities, fill any gaps between the two surfaces, and absorb road vibrations effortlessly.

I used a transparent dual sided tape on my GPS/4G modem, it held up just fine until the sun came out, then it was like the otherwise extremely sticky tape just melted and the not at all heavy 4G moden fell off the glass again and again.
There was tape both on the windscreen and also on the mount, so hard to say where it let go.

I think i need to buy some tape that will work, CUZ with the new car i went over my entire stash of old systems to source some dual sided tape to install the Vantrue S1Pro in the new car, and i had a tough time finding any.

Even if i assume there will be more cameras in my new car, then it is also limited CUZ the new car have a small sensor island and mirror mounted off windscreen, so really only a system on either side, and maybe one below if i can Jerry-rig some mounting surface CUZ the back side of the sensor island have no flat surface to mount off.
Gone are the days of 3-4-5 systems on the windscreen.

Rear window excellent VS old car, new car have room for 3 side by side rear cameras on the top and still within wiper range. ( assuming these are not wide models )

PS: i have to admit, some times my brain have contemplated in a moment of inactivity, if a slight curve to dashcam mounts would be better, maybe even a ever so slight parabolic shape
