Non adhesive mount for S1 4K

Hi, I live in Texas so I specifically got the S1 due to its heat tolerance. It attaches fine on my SUV which has a more upright windshield. However, I bought one for my daughter who drives a black K5 with a more sloped windshield. The 3M VHB tape won't stay on even with 3M primer applied. The heat makes the adhesive on the VHB give and the camera falls off with time.

I noticed when replacing the VHB tape on the mount, that there is a keyhole in the middle of the adhesive side of the mount. Is there something that will attach there. I was thinking of trying a mirror stem clamp, but attachment options don't seem to fit the keyhole.

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks
 
I honestly do not know the purpose of the hole in that Power/GPS case. I would not think it is for cooling as it is covered up by the tape. I have had the GPS module apart, and I don't think there is enough space to easily use a pin or threaded mounting solution. However, if you happen to be a machinist, you could probably prove me wrong. 🙂

I am surprised the unit is not sticking to the glass. There may be an issue with using 3M primer, as it is solvent-based and contains several potentially cancer-causing components. It is not rated for automobile safety glass, but it may work as a cleaner on it, I suppose. Being solvent-based, there may be a slight film left on the glass that is weakening the adhesion of the mounting tape. Avoid any of the citrus-type cleaners as they do leave a slight oily film on the surface. Generally, 90% IPA is usually enough to clean the surface. I use 6-inch square IPA wipes on my glass, and so far, there have been no issues with getting stuff to stick to the glass.

Have you tried the clear, self-sticking film?

I have a ceramic window tint on the windshield. I was hesitant to apply the VHB to the tint due to concerns about damaging it. I purchased a Thinkware heat blocking film for U3000 pro. it is a black adhesive square. I applied this to the windshield/tint and used the 3M primer on it and the mount before applying the VHB. I wiped with IPA prior. I had the same issue with VHB sticking on a Thinkware dashcam in our subaru crosstrek. Ultimately, applying the primer and heatshield worked for that one.

the keyhole has no function . Just remove air between tape and mount .
and did you solve the problem or still have problem ?
 
I emailed Vueroid as well.
They suggested not attaching the cam to the mount for 48hrs to allow the VHB bond to form and strengthen. So we will see.

Did you clean the windshield prior with alcohol wipes?
 
No picture on me right now, but it is on the drivers side of the mirror next to the black frits around the mirror and about an inch from the headliner
 
For years i have tried to mount dashcams, and NOT get a bubble of ait in the middle of the tape, but it seem like this is a unavoidable thing.
Mind you having cameras come off the glass i have pretty much never had, but mounts coming off tape i have seen, every time with systems i have moved ( cleaned surface on mount and of course and brand new tape )

A bubble, hmm. Maybe if I applied the VHB to the windshield first, and then applied the mount to the VHB it would avoid the bubble. The hole in the middle of the mount is to allow air out to avoid a bubble.
 
My experience is that all manufacturer supplied VHB will fail at some point. I've found that this tape works orders of magnitude better. Even though it says it's permanent it can be removed, just takes some effort.
