Having worked house sized diesel engines i can sort of relate.
On the really bad days after work i would do a full body wash in the same cleaners you use to get nasty stuff of your hands, even if sweating as much as you do in a ship engine room it is not everything that stick.
And then after that full body wash with regular soaps.
Also just wearing T.shirt and shorts in engine room, you cant really wear a overall as it will be soaked thru in no time and severely hamper movement.
Inside a ship diesel exhaust manifold, where my 1.9 M easy fit, at least in the skinny version, you find dirt galore.
crank case, surprisingly clean, but slippery.
