I have a Canon HF M40 that I'd like to use as a dash cam part-time. I've seen setups in police cars that have a mount that hangs from the rearview mirror. I think this would be perfect for my use, but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Any tips on where I could get one?

As I understand it has standard 1/4" screw nut at the bottom of the camera and you want to attach to mirror bracket using that 1/4" screw nut, right ?

What I'm thinking of has a mount that hangs off of the rearview mirror hangar, if that makes sense.

I used my Sony Handycam DCR-SX33 (weight 230g) as a DashCam for a while...

You'll soon get bored with the daily hassle, & will inevitably buy a purpose-made, loop-recording, fit & forget, permanently installed DashCam.

Don't waste money on a mount for your camcorder, put it towards the cost of a DashCam.

I'm not going to be using it every day, mainly going to be using it on longer trips.
